The real pain for me is that I really need four machines..Umatic, Hi8,
Beta SP, and SVHS. Then, of course, a PAR, a Laser Recorder, a Targa 2000..
It never ends….But, then it is still more fun than working for a living!
Boy, those clients don't know what you ahve to go through. I have a
big MIDI setup with DAT, and Digudesign in a MAC, samplers, ..the who 9 yards,
and all I wanted to do was put sound on my animations. (sure would be nice to
have a spelling checker on Compuserve)

Same here and I have all these decks working with the Fast VM. They all talk
to each other in their own language and video format. The FAST studio control
box is the universal translator. The weakest link in this system is the audio.
It can only handle 2 stereo channels at a time for mix. Therefore, I do most of
my audio work off the system using a manually controlled TASCAM.

I'm trying to get rid of manual syncronization of sound by recording
audio to disk with Digidesign, and then syncing to time code on a master tape.
All I have to work with right now is MTS song pointer info converted by a JL
Cooper box to SMPTE. In this relm I suppose I will have to spring for a TEAC 8
track DAT with SMPTE chase if the Digidesign doesn't work.
Isn't called Hardware Wars?

Can you give me a quick blurb about Digidesign? I too would like a
digital solution to syncing sound. Right now I use Sound Impression to edit
.wav files, and can view the file in time code for editing (doing the cuts by
eye, not ultra precise). However, I'm looking at doing a three minute
animation soon, and need to co-ordinate the sound effects (.wav files, or
synced analog from my Tascam 4 track) with a fellow musicians MIDI soundtrack,
as well as character voices. I can't imagine the size of a three minute 16-bit
stereo 44.1khz .wav file!

The digidesign board uses a separate hard drive like the PAR and there
is no limit except $$$$ on size. The files are very big, and things get fragged
easily. I use Cuebase Audio, a MIDI sequencer which has two tracks for wave
recording and up to 512 tracks for MIDI using the Unicorn interface.
The Audiomedia II card is available at West L.A. Music (310)477-1945.
They have an 8 track version for IBM and MAC. I have the small(2 track) version
for the Mac. It works great and can even make a CD master.
Hope that helps…yes, it syncs with SMPTE.

Just off the top of your head. I only have PC equipment.

I think they make the Audiomedia for the IBM now. I bought mine in a
package deal–$1300 for the Digidesign 2 track board and Cubase Audio software.
It's another 4-500$$$ for the hard drive. You should have 1/2 meg.
The 8 track wave recorder is $3,000, Plus disk and midi software. It is
called Studio 8, for both IBM and MAC. It interfaced directly to ADAT.
It is the standard setup in most LA studios. (Mac) There is also a
$20,000 setup with multi-channels for 16 track direct to disk wave recording.
Pick your flavor.

OzCIS has an automatic spelling checker built in, as soon as you hit "send" it
proofs the message. Now if I only had one for gramma! <bg>

Isn't halp the fun of ruding messages, de-cyph4ing the tyros.
Is OzCIS good? I have only used DosCIM and I find it a bit erratic in sorting
and updating threads. I feel like a change.

To clarify, if you get the shareware version from GO OZCIS, the spell checker
is a separate DL. I don't use the chekker hear, altho I shud. <g>

Greg- This probably should be another thread, but since it has to do
with sound…. I was over in the MIDI forum and noticed you in the
SAW forum. From your messages, I gathered that you all have/use SAW.
I'm curious how you like it. I may be needing to add audio at some
point in the near future.
