Hello all- If anyone could tell me how to slow down the emitter rate/speed 3 Vapor boxes by around 1/3, please let me know. I have a rush job using vapor, and can't figure it out. (and don't have the cpu for lots of tests.) Thanks- JNJ

An easy way to do very fast tests with vapor (and flame) is to put a solid white material on the particles and render a 320×200 flic. On a P5/66, you can preview a LOT of animation pretty quickly (albeit without transparency and lighting, but for motion it works great). In terms of emitter speed, you might be able to slow the apparent speed down by increasing the # of particles, but vapor doesn't have an explicit "speed" control. – G

>vapor doesn't have an explicit "speed" control. darn. Why? Hmm.. that's a wish. 🙂 > On a P5/66, you can preview a LOT of animation pretty quickly < I'm using a 486/66- even low detail/realism rendering takes forever. (I know, I was stupid to do a particle anim. with only a 486/66 🙂 >you might be able to slow the apparent speed down by increasing the # of particles < More particles would slow down rendering times, yes? That's not an option, unfortunately. thanks for your help. JNJ

Well, we designed vapor to simulate a steam-release of vapor under pressure, and there's not a lot of speed control for that. You can try turning down emitter strength and duration… that might also reduce the apparent speed. Re previewing particles without transparency for motion tests. Even on a 486/66, rendering time on small flics would only be a few seconds per frame. Give it a shot.

>vapor to simulate a steam-release of vapor under pressure, and there's not a lot of speed control for that. < Ok, I see. It still would be useful. Mabe I picked a wrong IPAS. I like the rise, and power of the output, it's just realllly fast. I'm trying to simulate heat slowly leaking through a house, but currently, it looks like it's a propellant. It's really cookin out of there! I'd hate to have that house's heating bill. 🙂 I'll play with it. Also, what's the best way to reverse an animation w/o rerendering it? I was thinking about using the make ifl to list the .tga files (PAR) in reverse, and VP them back to the PAR.

>DUPLICATE/REVERSE !!!! I didn't know that was there! Thanks. I'm glad I mentioned it. MUCH easier than an IFL.. I've got the latest released drivers, so "it's in there" 🙂 BTW- have you seen Razor PRO? What do you think? We're looking at getting it, but would like viewpoints of those who've seen it. I understand that those guys were down at AU…

John: REVERSE has changed the way I animate some segments. /__________From your message___________\\ BTW- have you seen Razor PRO? What do you think? >REVERSE has changed the way I animate some segments. Yeah, it'll cut my render time in about a third to a half. We have Razor, which is (of course) it's "parent". Unlike what they said, it doesn't work with the PAR. Not in any usable form, that is. It looks like it's got potential, but I hate 1.0 type Windows programs. Especially with a small company, and little beta testing. It looks good though.

*** have you seen Razor PRO? *** I saw it at AU. I have RAZOR (not PRO). It looked pretty good but I'm not sure the $700 price tag is reasonable. My experience with RAZOR is positive though I think I may get more use out of Animator Studio once it is released.

Yeah, I have Razor too.. it's worthless as far as the PAR is concerned. I got it because they said the next version would work with the PAR.. but they didn't say they'd charge 7 times the price.. Will Animator Studio support the PAR directly? If so, I may just get that. I need a good 2D program anyways.. JNJ

*** Will Animator Studio support the PAR directly? *** Dont know. Need to ask the Adesk folks on that. bill
