Went to Autodesk Dealer Update Training. We where handed a Floppy with the latest Stealth Virus on it. One of the people behind me found it. He didn't want to share his Anti Virus Software with us due to Paranoia so now 5 of us have Dirty Systems that we brought to class. I thought that you might be able to tell me what the latest and greatest Anti-Virus Detection and Cleaning Software is and Where I might be able to get it. Thanks in Advance Gus! Murph'

John, >>> Someone you don't know hands you a disk and you rebooted on it? <<< Yeeeesss…..I…..Did! You see I TRUSTED the Instructor (Phillip Miller) and I TRUSTED the company (Autodesk) that hired him to present this material. Since I payed $200. for the privlage you'd think they could of at least had an up to date Virus Scanner on-board before they started handing these Lab disks around…. I don't know whether to laugh or cry….I mean I still can't connect that machine to my network, load any new software updates or even back the damn thing up. I'm still waiting for "Someone" at Autodesk to get back to me regarding the "proper" Anti-Virus software that will clean this damn thing. I've tried the latest Mcaffee with a virus list dated 1-/14/94 and it won't see it…..yet I know it's there because I used the disk that we passed on to the person that had the software that spotted it. That same person also promptly dissapeared after class before any of us could get to him regarding the software he was using. He mentioned the name once during class but I never caught it as we went on with the "lesson" and as far as I know no body was able to write it down so were screwed until we can find something that can clean this or get the student list from Autodesk in Chicago to get back to this guy that has that program and purchase it so we can resolve this. I've talked to Rick West in Itasca and so far.. a week later…NOTHING! I've called him twice on this and he's still unable to get this resolved so he's trying to get to Phil to see if he's found anything. Frankly I'm beginning to wonder how many other Dealer Classes are going to have this problem. John, A while ago you mentioned that we might be able to obtain a certain item from you, is this still possible? Murph'

The facts are simple, "boot viruses" are one of the most common viruses, and the only way to spread them is to re-boot. Certain item? You mean CDs?

I got no clue. My virus days are way over. Check Norton AV. Symantec bought just about everyone out there (those that didn't get bought by Microsoft) so they ought to have something decent.

Hi Gus! Is Norton AV Available on their Norton #8 Utilities product? If so I think I got a copy around here somewhere. <g> It's pretty bad when you've got the latest software and don't have time to load it to check out all the bugs and changes that come with it.<g> I think I actually tried to load it and something went boom so I restored from my back up and shelved it. Maybe Norton AV is a seperate product only….in that case, if I knew it would clean this, I'd buy it anyway. Did you hear I'm going to go for the FAST Authorization. I hope I'm not sorry. <g> Any Comments or last minuet advice before I sign???? Thanks Gus, Murph'

James Try the McAfee anti Virus they are really good. Type 'GO MCAFEE' or call (408) 988-3832, fax (408) 970-9727, or write: McAfee, Inc., 2710 Walsh Avenue, Suite 200, Santa Clara, California 95051-0963. I don't work for them or anything! Jim

First thank you for the come back on this, second may I suggest you change your From response so that we may correspond without all the mystry…<g>. I've allready downloaded the MCAFEE stuff, in fact my copy had a virus list date of 10-15-94 and it still didn't show up in spite of the fact it showed up on someone elses machine after mine. We passed a lesson disk around for our Autodesk Dealer update Training Cute….NOT! I still need to find something more all encompasing than Mcafee. My problem is the Guy's program that picked it out vaporized with the Guy that pointed it out to us right after class. You see He wouldn't share his anti-virus software and who can blame him! He was clean and we weren't! Murph'
