I hope I remeber right, that you had stated you were involved with 8520
emulations on the AGA machines. If so, I have a question maybe you can answer.
I recently (pre Xmas) purchased a CD32 for my son (over strenous objections,
but there are a LOT more CD32 titles available now than for any other CD
console), any way to the point…without an SX-1 module, in order to boot PAL
cds, we are having to insert a mouse in port 1 and then change to a controller
after the pre boot screen to select PAL video mode. How dangerous do you
consider this to be? I have threatened to take away his 500 if I ever caught
him doing this and now I am telling him TO do it.

I was involved with software compatibility testing of the 8520 emulation in
Akiko (which is an ASIC in CD32).
Those mouse ports are supposed to be well buffered, but I'm not sure how much
of a habit I'd want to make of routinely plugging/unplugging with power on. It
might be OK, but if it is not, good luck fixing your machine.
I guess the software to make the joystick emulate a mouse comes up later than
boot menu so you really do have to use a mouse.
My answer is not to use anything which requires PAL video mode. I've never
found that any games were interesting enough to me to make that worth the
hastle.
Sorry I can't think of a better answer for you. Well, other than an autoport
switcher (plug in a mouse and a joystick, hit the fire button on either to
switch to using that one — Software Hut sells them).

The port switcher is the ticket! Why didn't I think of that? (duh) There
are some great Euro games out there, (and I pride myself on productively using
my Amigas!) and the selling point of the CD32 for me was the number of titles
available and 80% of those are PAL. Besides, all this stuff is for my boy <G>
