#Hi Density Drive Probs

Need some help please;
We just installed a new A.I.R. High Density Floppy drive and my 2000
will not recognize it as a high density drive ? However, It does read and
write 880K discs. We had a DKB Excell drive installed earlier and it had
the same symptoms. (We sent it back thinking it was bad <G>).
The system we have is an A 2000, AmigaDOS 2.1, a GVP G-force 30/40 with
gobs of memory and a A2091 HD controller, an Emplant (which we are trying
to get running) and a Fugi 540meg SCSI-II and a 60 meg Quantum HD with
both hard drives connected to the A2091.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a Power High Density floppy, AmigaDOS 2.1 with SETPATCH 40.14. I
always have a high density disk in the drive when I boot up. When I wanted to
write an IBM DOS high density disk, I had to have one of those in the drive on
bootup.

What is it for and where do I get it (If I need it ?)
I'll install a HD disc and try the bootup and see if it recognizes it.
Just rebooted with the HD disc inserted and then tried to format it.
No luck! it recognizes it as an 880k disc ?
Any other suggestions? Looks like I need some more. <G>

I've been using Setpatch v40.14, with AmigaDOS 3.0 on my A1200. Here's the
list of patches it tells me it has done on my system:
– BestModeIDA() patch
– Graphics BltBitMap
– Graphics BltMaskBitMapRastPort
– Graphics ChangeVPBitMap/ScrollVPort
– Enabled Advanced Graphics Modes
– ExAll replacement
– Gfx HashTable patch
– Screen Quiet TitleBar
Setpatch v40.14, also has a NOAGA option. This allows you to perform all the
patches except the one that fully activates the 32-bit graphic data paths. (The
default is a ECS compatible 16-bit path mode.)
If I run Setpatch v40.14, on my A1200 under KS2.04/WB2.1, the list of patches
is:
– Released extra A2024 buffers
– Moved CIA handlers to priority 0
– Console CMD_CLEAR
– Console Bell
– ExAll replacement
– DOS Flush()
– Blitter interrupts
– 150RPM HD floppies
– Intuition IAddress change
– Fixed Line-A exception vector
– Monitor database
– NMI Hardware patch
– DOS Open()
– Shared Semaphores
– Graphics Set/LoadRGB4
– Fix for old A1010 drives
I believe the 150RPM HD floppy patch is to fix a bug with 2.04 ROMs that
prevents them from mixing DSDD & HiD floppy drives. The A1010 fix was needed
for some floppy drive mechinisms that couldn't function correctly with the
optimised (faster) trackdisk.device.
Setpatch v40.14, can be found in AmigaUser LIB2 (Official Updates). it will
be file SETP40.LHA.

Thanks for the info on the setpatch. I downloaded it and installed in
the system as per instructions. Includinf the up date portion. Rebooted
and then tried the new HD drive. It still recognizes the HD disc as an
880K. when you try to format it.
Any suggestions ??? <G>

Don't know if this will help, I don't quit understand it all..but I had a
HD "power xl drive installed by a Amiga shop.
this is my understanding only!
1. if you have it internal, this would have to be done. but I have it
External and the Dos drivers "PC1" had to be changed to PC2 and the unit
number changed to Unit 2
2. there was a program on a install disk "HighDensityPatch" that had to
placed in the "C" directory and then on the first line of the "User
Startup" file.
I don't know if they'll let me send the file up here for you, doesn't say
its copyrighted but who knows…if you think you need it let me know and
I'll try and send up loaded..
also don't know if you will actual need it because, if its for only the XL
power drive or for any of them.
Also E-mail me as I'm not in this forum to often and it will be quicker
thru E-mail as I'm on the Genealogy board daily.

Is this a 'clone' of the dual-speed HiD drive used by Commodore, or Commodore's
HiD drive, or one of the 3rd party HiD drives that uses an IBM drive with a
caching system & software patch?

Its probably a clone of the commodore HD drive. The Guru that
installed it for me said it was the same drive as what was in his 4000.
Its an A.I.R. HD drive for the 2000 internal.
I'm going to try and get through to the factory today and see what I
can find out.
