#Reflection w/Text?

I'm going nuts trying to get a very blocky text to look like a golden chrome. It's pretty much a straight on shot. I've tried everything without much luck. Any suggestions? I can't give this text any curve! (The usual suggestion is to add some "bend") Brent Bonet – POP! Multimedia Atlanta

try a texture like granite.cel as a reflection map on the front faces only. It's a very busy texture and that's what is necessary to show reflected detail on front faces. You could also try a multi-coloured reflection map made of single pixels. With a lot of blur it can look like spotlights and is quite rich looking (like the ABC logo).

Brent: >> I'm going nuts trying to get a very blocky text to look like a golden >> chrome. The first trick is to _always_ make a bevel, even a small one, on metal text. Then apply an animated reflection map to it (it sounds from your note that the text is stationary). Doing this properly, you don't need to curve the text. If you don't want to animate the reflection map, just put a multi-colored texture map on the _inside_ of a large hemisphere behind the camera, and rotate the hemisphere to get the reflections right with an automatic reflection. (takes longer, but can give absolutely beautiful results!)
