I tried to attach two objects in 3ds4 and got a message {Error:no ram for attach} . I then recieved a second message{ textvert mismatch: fu fuselage verts:29664 textvert:0} ? sais vets= 37538 f= 74492 my available mem is 24346 which seems small as I have 36 megs. What is wrong and/or what are my options? I didn't have this problem with 3ds3.

will the 2 objects together exceed 64k faces? That would be too much for 3ds – 64k is the limit.

Thanks Martin sounds like an intel problem 64k-1 is the number of nonzero ints. in 16bits I will nead 32 bit int. of verts. to do this job , wavefront ????

Ben, sorry, I've no idea if Wavefront has a higher face limit than 3ds. Couldn't you just keep your objects under 64k faces?

In addition to what Martin said, sometimes a reboot will free up enough RAM for the attach. Or, you could merge the two objects that you want to attach into a smaller file, and try it there. Also, you could try selecting the objects and doing a Create/Face/Detach/Selected. -Alan

thanks Alan I will look into the size of my airplain parts but a 64k limit is probley way to small . thanks tor the help this is not a mem. problem I have lots of mem unused. Ben

Sometimes, Ben, even when you seemingly have plenty of memory free you can get this Attach error, so don't discount this possibility completely, please! That being said, if your objects are gonna go over the 64k limit, then this is, of course, your problem. Could you Optimize the pieces to bring them to a more manageable size before Attaching maybe? Do you absolutely need this to be all one object? -Alan

Hi Alan Thanks for the help. I an trying to make a model airplain I have made the wing and and fuselage and cant join them !! I still hafe to make the tail prop and wheels . the prop will nead to turn and the wheels will nead to turn and then fold into the wing . Is the limit I am runing into 64k faces or 64k vertex or 64k ( faces+vertexs) ? (wht can't autodesk conpile with a long int) I used deform fit to loft the fuselage I will make it simplier and then add parts to it this may keep the count doun. I was planing to use autosurf to make the prop blades . I have been digitizing plans in ACAD-12-autoserf and dxf-ing them into 3ds. If I boolean the wings on will in stead of join them will I save on the face count ? This is just a project I picked to learn modeling with 3ds acad and autosurf and has no teal inport Ben

Hi Ben, The 'No RAM for attach' message does pertain to the 64k limit. From my experiences, however, I've found it much more beneficial to keep elements of a model individual and link them hierarchically. Primarily for personal tastes and modification purposes that I may want to make later. However, if you wish to attach your wings, I might recommend that you could try using the Yost Group's Optimize .PXP routine to reduce the face counts. If you use the lofter to extrude wings and fuselages like I do, you've probably been building models with tons of faces. That's how mine usually turn out. I've been able to reduce faces counts on some of my models by 50-60% by using the Optimize routine. The quality of rendered model does not appear to be affected by the Optimize. I hope this helps, Bob

THANKS Bob there must be more to this memory stuf than just face count as I have 10 meg. free when i get textvert mismatch:fuselage verts:29664 tverts:0 not a word about faces anyway do you model in 3ds I have been using deform fit but I an trying to get setup on acad-autosurf and bring dxf files in to 3ds as you can do filets in acad I will check on schreiber ipas Ben

Hi Ben, I can't say that I've ever received that sort of error. It was: TEXTVERT Mismatch:fuselage Verts:29664 Tverts:0 ? Did this occur when you were importing the model to 3DS or while trying to attach the wings to the fuselage? I do most of my modeling in 3DS, but I've used AutoCAD and AME to build some components. I'll usually .DXF the parts into 3DS. If using Release 12 or earlier, I might also use the FILMROLL command to create an .FLM file that 3DS will read. If you're getting this error while importing a .DXF file to 3DS, try creating a filmroll file to import to 3DS. Good luck, Bob
