#Where's Paul?
38 messages in this thread
Say, I was just wondering…
Does anyone know what's happened to Paul Lynd? I haven't seen him around the
forum for a while. Is he lurking? Resting (the best possibility)? Working
(Next to worst)?
I mean, he was really over-doing it, last I remember, and not in the best of
health.
Hoping for the best,
Dave
Hi Dave,
I'm lurking ………….. 🙂
I'm actually on the forum 15-20 times a day, but I've been watching instead of
posting. I'm in rebuild mode. Playing with animation for the fun of it,
Fishing, playing with my children, enjoying my new puppy, etc.
I needed to take time to get my karma back in sync. Drop some weight, eat good
foods, etc.
I finished up all of my work for this year, and I'm on the lookout for
something really interesting and fun to do. I was really massively burned out
and just needed some time to reorient my axis.
Thanks alot for asking.
Paul
Hi, Paul. It's good to see your doing well.
I hope you have a relaxing holiday season…
-Alan
Thanks Alan …… I've seen a number of references to The Pagemaster. You did
alot of work on that didn't you? Hope everythings well in Ca.
Paul
Hi Paul,
Yup, I was lead (read: only<g>) 3D artist on the game. Did a bunch of fun stuff
for it. It should look quite cinematic (I hope!). The movie should be out soon,
too.
-Alan
I thought you had said you were involved on the project. Glop! Squish! Splat!
For Gameboy, Sega Genesis, and Super Nintendo from Fox Interactive. Page 9
GamePro magazine.
Congratulations!
Paul
>>Congratulations!<<
Hey, thanks, Paul. I gotta pick up that issue…
-Alan
Hi Paul!
– G
Hello Again Gary, Funny seeing you here. 🙂
Paul
Really. What a coinkidence.
– G
Good to know you are still around. I was wondering what happened to you. Enjoy
your rebuild.
Hey,
Just want you to know you've been missed here! (I was wondering where you went
a while ago.. 🙂 I always enjoyed your comments. I'm glad you're doing well.
(now to leave you alone.. 🙂

Thanks John,
I'll no doubt be migrating back to the forum as a participant over the next
month or so. I just need to make it through this 12 step revitalization
program. 🙂 Keep those threads running. I've really enjoyed lurking.
Paul
I hear ya. Certainly, it's important to take good care of onesself. Hopefully
you've learned alot in your "rebuild". hehe, "we can rebuild him.. " 🙂

>> I just need to make it through this 12 step revitalization program. 🙂 <<
Is that the one where step 1 is installing 3D Studio? 🙂
Happy revitalizing!

Great news. At first, I'd thought of making some joke about did you
kick off, or something — but then I thought of Jim Henson, and
decided that that might not be a good idea. Glad you're getting
rested up!
That Jim Henson reference was made quite a bit, It happens to be one
of the primary motivating reasons for the change in lifestyle. While
I would've loved to have met him in life, I'm not quite ready to meet
him on the otherside yet. 🙂 Thanks for checking.
Paul,
>> It happens to be one of the primary motivating reasons for the change in
lifestyle. <<
did you change your lifestyle? I think maybe I missed the message about your
re-emergence into the forum with a new moniker.
Hi Martin,
How goes the "Virgin" lifestyle?
I'm in the process of resetting priorities and generally rearranging
my day to day activities. After too many years of the rat race, I
finally reached the end of my rope and decided to try something
totally new. I've been lying low for a while and spending long
relaxing days in contemplation of the future. I actually had the same
case of the flu for around 7 months. 🙁 I missed Siggraph and
generally made myself miserable. Sooooooo I'm now on my own. Both
figuratively and literally. I'm slowly, cautiously looking for an
interesting project to persue. I'd like to create something exciting
and new, but so far nothing has really jumped out at me.
At the moment, I sit alone in a room full of neat toys, and there's no
limit to the possibilities, I just have to find something that'll
leave me feeling great and enjoying life. I have to figure out a
formula that'll mix lots of fun into the creation process. I lost
that somewhere down the line.
Are you going to attend the Winter CES? Do you know where it's going
to be held? Las Vegas? I'm interested in seeing what the gaming world
is all about. I know absolutely nothing about it and thought CES may
be an interesting way to start looking around.
Winter CES is always in Vegas around January 10th or so.
That's sorta what I thought but two different people had told me
Chicago, so I was unsure. Are you planning on attending? I'm looking
for a good conference with good atmosphere, food, and people.
>> CES
I've gone a few times and always had fun, so perhaps I'll go again
this year! Warning: that's always around my birthday, so everybody
who goes has to buy me a drink! :^)
Well Mr. Pyros,
<< Everybody who goes has to buy me a drink! >>
If you show …. they will buy. 🙂
Seriously, I hope you come …. Martin and Alan appear to be going,
maybe you and I could act like "gameheads" and see how far we get.
I'm interested in this gaming thingamajig.
>> maybe you and I could act like "gameheads" and see how far we
get.
After spending enough time with Alan & Martin, I'm sure we could "talk
the talk" and "walk the walk" rather quickly!
wow! things have changed completely, eh? I know what you mean about
the rat race. I took a whole 2 months off and my business didn't seem
to suffer – meaning I didn't lose any clients because of it. Unlike,
other freelancers, I do believe strongly in time off – and quite a
bit of it. 3 months a year sounds about right <g>.
Things have changed for me too. I'm at Virgin working on a baseball
game <snooze> and I'm ambivalent about whether how I'm adjusting to
corporate life. I'm on 3 months probation and I guess at the end of
that time the company and I will decide whether things are working or
not. In my spare time, I'm working on a video project for Kenworth
Mexico and some "other" long-term work from old clients. I've enough
work for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but my sleep is precious so
it's just 16 hours, 7 days. I'm really paying for that time off now.
'Course, I'll be going somewhere at the Xmas break – Virgin shuts down
for the week.
Winter CES in Vegas is a great place to find out about game
development – could be quite worthwhile 🙂
How's your health? Take care, mate…
Martin
Martin,
Sounds like you're doing great stuff, Are you going to the Winter CES?
My health's much better. Thanks for asking. Just dropped alot of
weight and I'm still trimming down. I feel like I've just come out of
drug rehab or something. Everything looks so much better. Dropping
the weight and clearing my head has done wonders. I played some
tennis this afternoon, and was just feeling great after a few sets.
Other than concept development and playing around with new animation
ideas, I'm officially on break until after Christmas. I enjoy playing
the games so much that I decided it may be interesting to figure out
how they're put together. I'm thinking that I'll definately hit CES
and see what sights I can. If you're planning on going, it would be
great to catch up with you, grab some good food, and find out more
about what you're up to. I wonder if Alan I. is going. He's the other
gaming wizard.
I've lost 30 pounds since NAB, so I can relate to feeling lean and
mean. I weigh about what I did at college, so that's a good sign. I'm
a lot healthier and happier too. We sold our house and are leasing an
incredible place in Laguna Beach with 360 degree ocean, city and
mountain views. I spend quite a bit of time on the balconies 🙂
Yes, I'll be going to CES – already sent off for my badge. It's "the
show" for gameheads. Alan'll be going too – he said so the other
night. I haven't arranged accommodation yet, but that's not a big
deal. I'd love to meet up while I'm there. Should be there at least 1
night, maybe 2, depending on the day of the week.
30 lbs ??????????
Wow …. that's my ultimate goal. If I can lose a total of thirty
pounds I'd float like a butterfly and sting like a bee.
I can definately appreciate the new housing …. Adrienne and I are
moving the puppy and kids prior to March 95. I'm moving back to the
countryside where I thrive.
<< Yes, I'll be going to CES – >>
Sounds absolutely fantastic! I'll make arrangements to attend
tomorrow. If you and Alan are going and Mr. Pyros is a definate
maybe, it sounds like THE place to be. Maybe I'll actually learn
something about the gaming world. 🙂 Thanks for all the info!
>> 30 lbs ?????????? Wow …. that's my ultimate goal. If I can lose a

I had to give up (permanently) a lot of junk food. I'm a total non-fat
or low-fat food vegetarian and have been since April – that means no
meat, fish or egg yolks. Sounds boring but I got used to it in about
2 weeks and felt health benefits very quickly.
Look forward to seeing you in Vegas.
Yup, I'll be there, Paul. C'mon down and we'll all party a bit!
-Alan
Hi David,
<< Does anyone know what's happened to Paul Lind? I haven't seen him around
the forum for a while. Is he lurking? >>
I see Paul in lurk mode many times during the day..
Jonas,
I thought I was the invisible man ….. I didn't realize I was being watched at
the same time. 🙂
Paul
Hi ya Paul,
<< I thought I was the invisible man ….. I didn't realize I was being watched
at the same time. 🙂 >>
It's a habit of mine to leave the tracking window up in wincim, I can readily
see who is spending big $$ reading messages online and who's thrifty and reads
messages off line. I also noticed your 100+ message posts/per month drop off to
almost 0 and then….. noticed the new login name..zipping in and out all day
long.
<< karma..alignment…family.. and watching food… >>
After watching the frantic pace that you lead at times….<g> .. it sounds like
you're now involved in healthy "peaceful" endeavors…
enjoy it… take a few pictures.. 🙂
Jonas,
You are definately on top of things. I had no idea that anyone kept track of
those things. I changed the login name because I'm concentrating more on Paul
the individual artist instead of Paul the businessman. I had forgotten how nice
it is to actually relax and enjoy life. It's also funny you mentioned taking
pictures. I just bought a new Canon Elan and I've been shooting pictures
continuously. I have a fairly large darkroom, and it's another nice hobby to
relax with.
I have to make it to a conference and meet you in person some time. Is Autodesk
going to be at the Winter CES this year?
Paul
Hi Paul,
<< Is Autodesk going to be at the Winter CES this year? >>
I'm clueless but I can find out if you wish. Regardless, I won't be going,
somebody crazy-glued my fingers to this keyboard and told me to stay put til
the next siggraph. :-)..
til then..
