I'm looking for a 2D 640×480 (or even 800×600) full screen animation of
something like a fractal generation program – perhaps I need a fractal
generation program.
I want this to act as a back drop to another program.
Can anyone help ????

Have you played with fractint? It can do no end of interesting images, and is
very popular for generating backgrounds, background animations, and so on.
