Chad, Thanks for replying to my message. To answer your question, I'm planning to use 3D for the beginning of a school video which opens with a few animations. I plan to make the opening to this video using some ideas from the movies, most recently Stargate, and T2. I guess most computer animators are fascinated by T2. I am, for one. Anyway, I have Imagine 2.0, and I can't seem to get the hang of it. Most likely because the Y and Z axes are switched. Today I received a demo disk from Caligari. I haven't put it on my computer yet, I'm kinda busy. I looking into making a computer animation similar to Babylon 5's effect, but maybe a little bit less sophisticated. You mentioned something about Lightwave. I heard about it, but I haven't really looked into it. I've got a 66mHz Pentium PC at the moment, but I looking into a 90mHz Pentium or SGI. Do you know if SGI has the same programming language or is compatible with PCs? I read a message from them that stated that their spruced up Indy workstation is now $19,000! I looking into speed, quality output that can be put on video tape, and a fairly simple interface. You mentioned also in your note about IMHO. What is this? I don't think I've heard of it.

SGI's are not hardware compatible with PC's. However, the Indy can emulate Windows. If you are looking at that level of power you should consider looking into NT systems. The Cobra 275 is an awesome computer. You can pick one up fully loaded, including Real 3D and a morphing program, for under $10,000. The Cobra is considerably faster than an R4600-based Indy. There is also a product called the Shablamm, which plugs into a PC slot and contains the same processor as the Indy. With 32 megs of RAM they run around $4,000. The Shablamm is a fairly painless way of adding decent rendering power for little cost. I've heard that 3DS will supposedly be ported to NT. Newtek already has ScreamerNet available for NT and Lightwave on the way. I personally think NT will be the next SGI. By the way, IMHO means In My Humble Opinion.

Andrey, The Cobra 275 is a Windows NT based desktop system. It is powered by a DEC 64-bit Alpha processor running at 275 Mhz. Chad Liddell PCAD*
