I have a Mac Quadra 650, and have access to some .AVI files. Does anyone know of a Mac program that will allow me to view these PC videos? Thanks

Hi Charlie, Microsoft's Video for Windows Developers Kit contains a Mac floppy which has a converter utility on it. This reads in the playback information from the AVI file and makes a Mac resource, essentially imitating a Mac QuickTime file. Although I haven't gotten hands-on with this utility, there is apparently a problem with audio-video interleave… AVI likes strictly interleaving one snippet of sound with every snippet of video, while QuickTime has a looser weave and chunks data every half-second or so. Nels Johnson of the SF Canyon Company, the main architects of QuickTime for Windows, has a TRMOOV utility which apparently handles this conversion in a different fashion. It's available in his book (sorry! have forgotten the name!), and is also, I believe, somewhere here on CompuServe. So there *are* some routes to achieving this conversion out there… hope this lead is what you need! Regards, John Dowdell Macromedia Tech Support
