Try as I might, I never seem to be able to locate the file format
specs for any of the popular video schemes (QuickTime, MPEG, AVI).
Are these doc files too big to be located online here? Are they only
available for a fee? Either way, where can these formats be found?

Eric:
The AVI file format you can get by purchasing Microsoft Video for Windows
developer kit which has a bunch of other things that you may not need. I guess
Microsoft needs the money!
MPEG specs are put out by ISO (international standards organization) and it is
fairly complicated. If you understand signal processing and have looked at ISO
papers before this one should be in any university engineering library micro
film.
QuickTime , I don't know. Probably Apple. I looked at all of these things about
a year ago and then decided to develop my own video compressor/player for an
upcomming product.
