Steve, I recently inquired about Newton's Law. They informed me that the product will soon port over to the PC from the Amiga. Looking at the list of products that it interacts with on the Amiga, I asked them why it doesn't support Animation:Master. They said they were supporting applications that wrote their file format in ascii. HMMM!!! It seems like the perfect fit and they agreed and were willing to look into it, especially if Hash also showed some interest, SO steve how about it!!! 3rd party support is FREE ADVERTISING!! No product is too successful that it could do without that (IMHO)! <G> Of course, this is a moot point if A:M will be incorporating the cool features of Newtons Law i.e. particle animation (which, because of your motion library features, can kind of be simulated now, I think?), collision detection, explosions, fire, rain, wind, smoke, etc.. OR, am I not digging deep enough into the material editor. Could it be that now that a material can change over time, these effects are already possible?? If so, lets start with a puff of smoke (dust)? How would that be done? Thanks, Jim Jonah // hopin' those programmers are just codin' day and night!<G>//

Jim, we would love it if Newtons Law would support our products!! I would be happy to start the ball rolling! Do you have a contact person and phone? Steve

Steve, Sorry it took so long to get back to you on the Newton's Law. I talked to the gentlman just before I got married, and now I can't find the slip of paper I wrote his name on. BUT, the person who answers the phone is most likely to person I talked to in the beginning of September. I suspect they are a small company. Anyway, A:M already has some of the features of NL (IK, align to path) but some of the missing ones sound real useful: Gravity, Magnitism, Wind, Friction, Explosions, etc. I hope this helps, I would love to see A:M have 3rd party support, not that it *needs* it, but just "the more, the merrier". See ya! Jim Jonah //impatiently awaiting Mr. Font and Mrs. FX <G>//

Jim, I totally agree about the "third party support" bit. We are anxiously awaiting the day when we have as much as 3DS… Steve, Hash Inc.

Steve, One way to get instant suddo (sp?) support, is to add the ability to support photoshop plug-ins. Not many, if any animation programs do this yet, but they will. Adobe probably has a toolkit for jump starting development. That would be a powerful addition, that once done, probably would need minor (yah right!) maintanence. Premiere 4.0 allows the user to have settings for a filter for the beginning and the end, allowing the filter to change over time. If the plug-ins could interact with both your procedural textures AND texture and bump maps, that would be "the greatest"! <G>. Thanks for listening, Jim Jonah. p.s. Did you get any response from Newton's Law, or are those features redundant with future features?

Jim, No I never did get through to Newtons Law… just rang and rang… Do you have an address perchance? I could write them… Steve, Hash Inc.

I think the Newton's Law people are already out of business, but I've heard there's going to be a new ad in the next edition of Video Toaster User from the people who originally made the program. Please keep in mind that this program has never been released. There are other companies that have released motion-generating programs, such as Positron Publishing's DMM, which is available now for LightWave, and they're working on the IPAS version for 3D Studio.

Thanks for the info John… you wouldn't happen to have info on any third party developers who might be interested in our program or any that I could contact directly would you? Steve, Hash Inc.

If you build it, they will come! If you want to attract third-party developers, build and define a plug-in spec, then prove you've got a horde of enthusiastic users yearning for new tools. When you work on the plug-in spec, take any 3D Studio publication and call everyone who makes IPAS plug-ins. It's not a secret, but any plug-in maker will react enthusiastically to an invitation to port their programs. It's much easier to increase profits by making an easy port to a new market, as opposed to incremental increases of market share in the market you're already in.
