Orlando, Impulse has been been looking at Windows 4.0, and they have stated that Imagine will be made Windows ready for Win4.0. -GreG

Last year they said they will have a super machine in spring with 200 mHz Alpha chip but nothing happened, then they said they will have a PPC version, also nothing. And since Win4.0 is not available to the consumer yet, they have not specified WHEN Imagine for _it_ will be available either. When a company says "We are looking into Imagine for the PPC" it is _not_ the same as "We are in the process of porting Imagine to the PPC". Regardless of that, do you know the current status of the above three items you mentioned? BTW, don't ask me! <g>, I haven't asked Impulse recently. I'll see what I can find out for you though. -GreG

David One can always count on you to be negative, it makes me fell great to read your messages that allude to us not telling the turth. For your information We are working on a new program that will address all of the machines you mention as well as most an new OS. Of course this will take more that a few moments to create, unless you have a better idea. Mike

Mike, you are right my last message what a kind of negative. Sorry. I know that porting a program, espcecially something like a 3D program, to another system isn't easy and takes time. So what happened to the plans for the Alpha Machine with Video capabilities? -David

Yes, DEC tried to push the Alpha a lot, but looks like it didn't help. My friend ported his Animation program to the Alpha and the speed wasn't that much higher. -David

IF speed is what you need, you shall have it. WE at Cyberimage are selling many new DUAL PENTIUM 90\100 motherboards that have twin pentiums on them, 512 megs ram max, built in NCR scsi bios, up to 512 k cache, 4 PCI 4 EISA slots. The board supports the new symmetrical multiprocessing mode of the pen 90\100's so the cpu's divide the rendering tasks up equaly.It will support the upcomming pen 150 mhz as well. I doubt I can afford a new dual Pentium machine at the moment. ;( But I guess the software will have to support multible CPS, too. Win NT does. Will Win 4.0? I'm not at all impressed by the Pentium. Such a moster and only two times faster than a 486 (at the same clock speed). I'm more impressed by the PPC. But basically I agree with you. The PC will become more and more powerful and the gap between the PC and SGIs will become smaller. -David

Hi, Do you have prices for the Dual-P54C boards ? What about boards using the GLiNT chip ? Do they ship with an ADI driver for 3DStudio work ? They must as I don't know of any major apps on the PC side using OpenGL. Do you know of any major SGI app being ported to NT ? TIA, Joao

Sounds good to me – but if you are developing for 4.0 than you are for the most part also developing for NT (a better OS to scale up ) – any time frame ? Thanks Orlando

Orlando, I don't believe that Impulse can specify WHEN Imagine will do Windows. Windows 4.0 is not available yet, so to do so would be difficult to say the least. -GreG
