I'd love to, but it isn't my amiga; mine does run NickPrefs. I don't
think the station will be upgrading the OS anytime soon, especially with
NEWT gunning for funding for PBS.

I often wonder about the govnernment we elect. Guess we get what we
deserve.

It must have hurt terribly to have him confiscate it from your office… btw,
would his office be at the Senate office building, considering he's the Speaker
of the House?

we *always* get the gov't we deserve; last november 8, we decided we deserved
better.

Gee, that'd be great. Then maybe we wouldn't have diseased bison wandering onto
ranchlands, and the Smithsonian might have more accurate exhibits.

Let's see, the federal funding for PBS is 14% of their income. They obviously
have demonstrated the ability to fund themselves to the tune of over a billion
dollars annually. If PBS can't survive without the 14% (or $285M) from federal
funds … tough. Barney is the 3rd richest entertainer in America, maybe he'll
float them a loan. Big Bird and friends gross more in merchandising sales
annually than the federal funding for PBS — PBS does not need federal funding.

I'd prefer a to outlaw Barney at the same time we keep the 14% of funding.
Look at the funding from anohter veiwpoint; we are a small market PBS
station, 1/2 our funding comes from the college we are licensed to, 1/4
comes from local fundraising, and 1/4 from CPB/PBS. If we lose federal
funding, it will hurt.

That still doesn't explain why PBS should continue to be federally subsidized.
There are many other choices out there that, in my opinion, offer better or
equal programming, more professionally produced, than PBS.
In today's climate, where there are dozens, and soon to be hundreds, of
choices, PBS can succeed of fail on their own like everyone else. They
currently raise more than $1B a year in funding … there is no need for the
taxpayer to kick in an additional 14% of their funding (or $285M).

Hey, I wouldn't mind if CPB found funding from another source–I hate
being tied to the whims of the government.
