My office has recently set up a network using Windows for workgroups. I believe that it is impossible to use the networking features that come with this software in order to have network rendering in 3ds. I have heard of several different types of dos based network systems. Lantasic to name one. Can anybody give me some advice on an easy system to install over Windows for workgroups (or in conjunction with) to get a network setup for 3ds! Thanks

david, WFW will work for network rendering, although if you have a choice, you might want to move to another network. However, you can set up WFW just like any other peer to peer network. Download the file 3DSNET.TXT from the library. It goes over the main concepts for network rendering. -Brian

Brian, An addition to the thank you. I got the txt file, and looked over it. It answered alot of question I had, but not the one I'm getting hung up on. How can you get the network to recongnize other machines without being in windows? I am able to get a machine in dos to reconize a machine on the network in windows, but not dos to dos ( Am I making sense, I know very little about networks) Or in order to use WFW and 3ds on a network, do you have to use 3ds while in windows? I hope you can help!!!

On a WFW network, at least one machine has to be in Windows. The other machines can be started with the Net USe command at the DOS prompt. Also there is a version of WFW for DOS. Sounds funny, but what it really is are the network drivers to set up peer to peer networking in a DOS environment. For more help on this, you will need to contact the WFW experts at microsoft.

Sounds as if DOS WFW is required for 3ds Net rendering, unless running 3ds in windows. I think my soloution is WFW DOS. Thanks for your help.
