Hallo G-, in Sep. I visite the ADESK Roadshow presentation 3DS-R4 in Berlin and they show us a Patch-Modeller (like NURBS) as an PXP routine shipped with the Update R4. It was one of the main reasons for me to buy your update. Now I got the update from my dealer and I'm extremly frustrated while missing this feature!!! What has happened to the difference between advertising and shipping??? Regards Willy

A short time prior to shipping R4, Autodesk announced that it had to regretfully remove the patch modeler from the feature list. The programmer of the patch modeller, Danny Mercurio, has announced here on compuserve, that he was acquiring the rights to this module from Autodesk. I do not have any more details at this time. jonas[adesk]

Hallo Jonas, <<I'm very sorry but the patch modeler was not included in the shipping version of 3DS R4.>> Sorry, too. Is this the way ADESK would associate with faithful users/buyers? Why don't they change the price or put something else in the box (like a slip for a free future or now existing IPAS)? My expectation was to get what I pay. Regards Willy

Hi Wilfried, << Why don't they change the price or put something else in the box (like a slip for a free future or now existing IPAS)? >> Autodesk included the Browser with the R4 package. jonas[adesk]

Jonas Yes, I Feel like I got my money's worth with the R.4 upgrade, but the main reason I ordered it right away was for the patch modeler. (I didn't want to have to buy Animation Master as a 3D Studio modeling extension) The inclusion of the Browser was almost an insult (not quite, but almost) . I kinda feel like I got burned twice, I already had plenty of good textures but when I saw that Browser was included in "Texture Universe" I laid out the money for it. Later, when I ordered R.4, I thought I was paying for a patch modeler, instead, I got the Browser that I'd already paid for once before. I love 3D Studio and I know I'll cream over rel.5, but even so, I really think Autodesk should've had a little more consideration for their loyal customers. I'm glad you decided not to ship a sub-standard patch modeler, but you all could've done something a bit more substantial then throwing in a product that many of us already had (and had brought from you). Anyway I don't mean to moan It's just something that's been bothering me a bit. See you later (I hope we can still be friends 🙂 ) -David

Jonas: I'll just second the fact that the Browser was a poor replacement — again because I bought TU just for it. Now, if there had been a couple improvements to it or something (I know why there weren't, I'm just saying that for it to have been seen as an inclusion of some worth), then, maybe. My suggestion is for you guys to buy the BONES shareware and send THAT out (although those that have already bought it….). I'm not saying Autodesk had an easy task, but the Browser just doesn't cut it as a consolation prize. Dave

Willy: >> Why don't they change the price or put something else in the box (like a >> slip for a free future or now existing IPAS)? FYI, Autodesk did include the Browser IPAS in the box when they dropped the patch modeler. Greg Pyros
