Just send the targa's directly to the PAR drive. Does Premiere output targas? I
don't recall.

Folks,
Just a quick comment/observation on RAZOR PRO. I just received it
yesterday along with the upgrade chip for the PAR. All installed just fine and
it seems to handle most things without a problem. I did however experience a
problem with .ANI files from the PAR.
Heres what I observed:
Using the Razor Library, I was able to view the files on the PAR drive,
but it listed them as TGA files. This may be the way it is suppose to show them
but I thought that was interesting, that is also the way DOS sees them.
Next, I tried to add one of my animations to the library and used the
ANI
format for the search. Once again, no problem the file showed up on the Library
Menu and also on my Sony Monitor as if I was accessing it from the PAR
interface.
The Funk began when I attempted to play the Clip from the Library Menu.
It was unable to play the .ANI format. I then copied the clip using the TGA
format it seemed to recognize. Once again no problems… Until I tried to view
the clip which once again reported an error… The manual suggested that the
application may not have access to the PARDRR.DLL fille but this is not the
case.
If anyone has got R. P. up and at full thottle please give this thread
a twist as I have many Video Contortions planned for this weekend but I need
the clips on my PAR drive..

You're lucky…I can't get Razor to recognize my PAR at all! It says it
can't find the par.ini file. I've even put it in the razor directory, all to
no avail. I've also found out that Razor won't deal with Elastic Reality
Transjammer effects or Aldus Gallery effects, like it says it does. Nor do I
see any indication of a character generator or motion path generator, which are
listed features.
I'm beginning to think this is an over-priced early beta version of this
program and think maybe it's best to wait for Premier.

P.S. The manual says you should load the DPS MCI driver. Anyone know where
you can get that little gem?

Now that you mention it I forgot about all those wonderful features.

thinks me smell a BETA release, which would be just fine if I didn't just drop
$800.00 on it. Monday will be a day of much conversation with IN-SYNC tech
support, and if all else fails Maryland isn't that far of a drive …… 🙁
As for the PAR MCI driver that we are suppose to load… NO CLUE
I could not find them/it anywhere.

Please post your conversation with in-sync, I've only had a few hours to mess
with Razor and I'm also extremely ($800 Bucks worth) curious where all my
feaures on the list are. BTW – try putting the PAR.INI file in your Windows
main directory, that's how I got mine running…

We moved the MCI drivers to the general section of the BBS yesterday.
If you have any problem getting the drivers let me know. You will be
receiving a disk with the drivers in the next couple of days by snail
mail.

I called the BBS Saturday, but have not been upgraded beyond limited
access.
Even after I called them today and explained the problem(s) I was having. They
promised to upgrade me, but so far (8:00 PM CST) have not. David, at
Digimation told me the files I need, but I can't get them. All I get off the
IN SYNC BBS after I ask to go to the files area is alot of garbage on the
screen.
I'm going to try to be patient with this software, because David
(Digimation) says Jamie's demo is really cool and there's some more stuff
coming as free upgrades, but I would like it to at least work and do the BASIC
things it's supposed to do.
The MCI drivers have been moved to the general section. We assumed
incorrectly that there would be a separate disk from DPS for the MCI
stuff and so we are supplying the drivers ourselves. By mistake the
drivers didn't make it out and so you can obtain them from the BBS or
you can wait a couple of days and receive from via snail mail from
your reseller.
You need to set up the PAR as follows. Make sure your Autoexec.bat
file contains the following lines:
C:\dps_par\parinit /p=c:\dps_par /win c:\windows
C:\dps_par\pardrv
If you add these lines then RAZOR PRO will have no problem seeing the
PAR.
The Elastice Reality plug-in will be available soon. For more info on
this plug-in release please refer your questions to Elastic Reality.
RAZOR and RAZOR PRO can both accept Aldus Gallery Effects plug-ins.
Check that the Gallery Effects are in the path and that you are using
version 1.5.1 of volume 1 as the original version of volume 1 is no
longer supported by third party apps.
The character generator and motion path generator are done in our
labs, but because of Comdex, they didn't receive the testing they
needed and we delayed the release of these until December 5th. All
registered users will receive the upgrade then.
In relation to the comment that RAZOR PRO is in beta, that is
definitely not the case. It has been beta tested for three months now
and several people have been using it in the field to create projects
and not merely test it. Some of those projects were shown at Comdex.
However, the manual for RAZOR PRO is still in beta. We released it
early because several people wanted to use it prior to Comdex and so
we put together a beta manual for them. If you use RAZOR PRO you will
soon discover how robust it is. If you do have any problems we are on
hand via cserve, our BBS, our technical support number (301) 831 5008
and our fax.
Brendan:
Go into whatever directory you have the PAR in and type "PARDRV -h". This will
give you a help screen of all the switches possible on the PAR. Get a report
of the current status of the drive, including whether it is currently in TARGA
or ANI mode. It sounds like that is where your problem lies.

Thanks for the input. I don't believe that the difficulty is directly
related to the PAR. It along with the TBC IV have performed flawlessly in the
past few weeks. Another observation in using RAZOR PRO was that if you drag
the .ANI clip from the library into the composition window, it can be viewed
from there. But the same clip is " NOT RECOGNIZED" by the RAZOR PLAYER module.
I would have guessed it used the same player device in either case but
apparently not. Interesting……..

Sorry not to get back to you sooner. Following Comdex I went off to a
video editing conference.
The problem you are experincing is because your PAR is not configured
correctly. You need to change the lines in your autoexec.bat in order
to fix this:
C:\DPS_PAR\parinit /p=c:\dps_par /win=c:\windows
c:\dps_par\pardrv
where dps_par is the directory containing your par initialization programs and
c:\windows is your windows directory.
This will put your PAR into the right mode. Unfortunately this piece
of info was left out of the beta docs. We've fixed this now. FYI you
also need the MCI driver for the PAR which is on our BBS in the
general section. Its called PAR_MCI.zip. Let me know if you have any
other probs.
Your a rough fellow to be out here on the boards on
ThanksGiving Day resolving your customers woes. : ) I was able to
get the drivers from your BBS and at this time all is going well .
I must Applaud you & Dave for really nipping my / our
concerns in the butt so quickly. Your product is really starting to
show it's power and you guy's have definately shown that your there
to back it up….

thing out for the ump-teenth time.. If radiation from staring at my
screen too close does'nt get me, then all the manuals from all these

Thanx for your answer, but what i mean is: that i want (for example) use
the transitions of Premiere or Photoshop and then sent the TGA's including
this transitions to the PAR, and that is not possible as far as i know.
Or is it ??

Composite your transitions with Premiere or Razor and use the PAR drive letter
and sub-directory as the area to store your files. It should work fine, It has
for me.
