#Videonics MX1 OK?

Has anybody had any experience with the Videonics MX1 Digital Video Mixer?
I'm looking to use one for field production (easier to move aro}nd than
the Toaster), and was wondering how well it works.
Also, any luck using it as a TBC for Toaster inputs?

Haven't used one, but, if it means anything, it's listed as VIDEO
magazine's top mixer of '94 in the latest issue.

Afraid I'm another "VanNo" artist. I don't move this stuff unless I
absolutely have to. Things keep breaking!
So, how's the projects lately? I'm afraid I haven't been popping in here

Yeah, I figured you wouldn't tempt fate with a van.
Well, I've had a good Christmas. A few toys, nothing computer related. The
only downside is that my A3000T's left-mouse-button function isn't
working. It's not the CIA's and it's not the mouse, so when I get some
money together, I'll try and get it repaired. The repair tech thinks it
might be a shorted circuit. I'm using my keyboard to emulate the left
mouse click, but it apparently does not fully emulate it. It works on most
software, but on some, it doesn't do a thing.
The video project I had been working on fell through. My boss decided he
didn't have the $$$ to pull it off in the quality he wanted. We could have
done it, but he wanted it done "right" by hiring professionals to direct,
etc.
CanDo 3 came out, but I can't afford the upgrade at this time. Too steep
for me. So I'll plug away with CanDo 2.51. At least I upgraded my
Imagemaster R/t to 1.50C, and it is great. Ben is supposed to have a more
major update soon.
I'm still trying to find someone who wants to trade their older Toaster
(1.0/2.0) for my studio camera. I've had a couple of nibbles, but nothing
serious.
Some local lads are trying their hand at developing some Amiga software
and I might be helping out with the graphics end. We'll see if they can
pull it off.
I might be posting an early Imagine 3.0 model of my Cerberus spaceship
sometime. When the video project was cancelled, I was told that I could do
whatever I wanted to with the models.
I still have The Producer project. It's sitting unfinished. I would like
to get back to it, but it depends on how things go.
I have to ask Jerry if he'd put some Framestores of some example work to
tape for me. The G-Lock I'm using putters out when used with the A1200.
Seems to work fine on my A3000T, but I don't have a 24 bit card or AGA on
it, so that leaves that out.
Oh, and I think you know that I'm on Internet now via Edmonton FreeNet.
It's a fantastic thing to be involved with! I also get a message lists for
Babylon 5 and the Toaster/LightWave. I know I can access B5 here, in
SFMEDIA, but it's free for me on Internet.
How's your demotape? Has it developed into an even more eye-catching item,
or did our suggestions mess it all up? *8^)

Good Christmas here, too.
Working feverishly here on a project for a client, and have been for five
months now. I did the sales video for it, and am doing test runs now. I
can't say much, but it's a new TV show under development. Learning lots
about editing, shooting, live switching and such.
You might think about putting a classified in the Broadcast Pro forum here
on CIS (BPFORUM) for that camera.
My demo upgrade has been on hold for a while, although the old one is
getting sent to some pretty interesting places of late… I'll try to
fire off a copy to you if I ever get it done. Lots of good stuff to put
on there once I'm allowed to.

Nate, I have experience with a variety of video processors and have just given
the MX1 a "test drive". I CANNOT RECOMMEND IT.l The main problem is one of
response. When you hit a button there is a half second delay before anything
happens….even when doing a simple cut! This makes it quite cumbersome to use,
especially in the field for live mixing. As for hitting edits to a music beat
for instance, FORGET IT!
Also after each transition there is a delay before it's ready to do someting
else, so for get about any fast paced cutting or dissolves. Regards, Gary

Thanks mucho for the timely feedback. It's just what I was after;
unfortunately, the client went and ordered it yesterday so I'll get to see
it's shortcomings today. At least the timing in this shoot shouldn't be
too critical, and he;ll be using it more than me until the project ends.
I see Amiga World had an article on it in the issue that came yesterday;
talk about great timing!
What I was really interested in is it's ability to feed the VT a stable
input. Good price for a dual TBC, if it really works for that.
Especially with the client footing some of the bill!!

BTW, you mention editing to a musical beat. The Nucleus PersEditor has a
nice feature for marking a list at points with a single keystroke for use
later. Now if I only had rythm…
Got the MX1 in; you are right, the delays are a bit unsettling. It should
do OK for what I want it to do.

A small company in Hot Springs AR, has a video tape on the MX-1, how it works
how to set up for toaster tbc application etc. The company is Elite Video and

Hey, thanks mucho, guy! Just what I needed.
Looks like I have to use the MX-1 on input 1 and use a DA to get the
signal (sync) to the decks, but I'd rather get that tape and see how to do
it right.
