#Dinosaurs and Beyond

I just watched a show on The Learning Channel called "Paleo-World" that
claimed the animation was by Anim8,inc. Was this you?
Tim,
That was I. 😐
I actually did all of the sequences for 9 shows in less than a month. :-/
Averaging a creature, 4+ texture maps, 5 morphs and a series of stills for each
of the shows every 2-3 days. That's concept to final delivery every 48-
72 hours including rendering time. There are tons of problems with some of the
images but all in all it worked out well. 🙁 Between the modelling, i.k.,
painting, morphing etc., it turned out to be quite a feat. The vast majority of
the time, we actually had to hand carry the final tapes to the post house via
US Air and insert the graphics during the layback.
They're all very low fidelity images, but because of the phenomenal turn around
time, we ended up getting a fair amount of possitive press. Everyone from
Cinefex on down has called us to inquire how the footage was turned around so
quickly.
In the clients words, " So many animation houses take forever to
create perfectly mundane graphics and simultaneously charge you an
arm and a leg to do it, we were able to create original footage
faster than we could've ordered stock footage and at a price point
that has already created a long list of new clientel."
That about sums up our take on that hellish project. 🙂

Sounds like quite a hair puller. There was a marathon of sorts of them this
afternoon I stumbled across. Except for a walk sequence of one of the dinsaurs
being a little stiff, it looked fine to me.
Thanks …. the stiff walking sequence was probably the Carnosaur. It
was around a 12 hour turnaround including rendering and I worked from
a single artist's pencil sketch of the creature. In 12 hours there's
no time for anything but the absolute basics. 🙂 There was a point
in time when I could barely make a flying logo in twelve hours, now I
can create creatures from scratch, animate and render them in that
time. What a wonderful world we live in. <BG>
Well, if it was twelve hourse, then it was great! 🙂
Was the carnosaur the one with the jaw that hinged sideways?
Yep, that was the one. The sequence that you saw had a fairly intense
DVE across it? The DVE was quickly done at the very last minute and
if you noticed, the DVE was making the creature get smaller as Ben
Garzarra was talking about the creature evolving into a larger and
larger species. <BG> Just one of those things that happen when you
try to do animation at the speed of light without having the script
in front of you. 🙂
