It seems that the World of Commodore Amiga Toronto, the original World
of Commodore show, will not be held this year. Apparently, it was going
ahead if they could get 20 exhibitors, but they did not succeed.
The dealers have always depended on Commodore parachuting in huge
quantities of stock directly to the show floor. I guess with no supply
from Commodore, the dealers have nothing to sell. It's sad. It's very
hard to find many dealers stocking Amiga software even. I have kind of
depended on the show to buy most of my supplies. Maybe next year (I
hope).

The World of Amiga at Wembley, London, on December 9-11, currently has
more than 70 exhibitors, including many companies from outside the UK. (I
know because I've just finished doing the show guide for them.)

There was no official notification to developers about WOC in Canada… I did
not know anything about it… we would have gone with a double booth like last
year.
Why was there no press on this? 20 exhibitors is nothing… there were 50+
last year.
We weren't contacted for the Toronto show this year. As far as we knew, the
show was cancelled during the summer. We probably would have attended had the
show been held.

We were not contacted either. I think the bit about "couldn't get 20
exhibitors" is a load of horse-pucky.

I agree, Ben. SoftLogic, BlackBelt, GVP, UUI, Centaur, etc. are always at the
shows… sheesh, I think it would be hard NOT to get at least 20 exhibitors..
Well, I wouldn't say we're always there… but we sure as heck wouldn't come if
we're not asked, eh?

Well, I guess that 20-exhibitor thing is probably just a rumour. It's
really a shame that there won't be a show, but I have to assume that there
would be some publicity by now (especially to potential exhibitors!) if
any show were being planned.
In any case, it's really encouraging to be that so much potential
support is out there, but I think it would have helped greatly to inspire
confidence in the marketplace had there actually been a show. There's
always next year (I hope).

Yep, there's always next year. And, in the next year, we should have some cool
Amiga stuff slowly appearing… regardless of the continuous screw ups coming
from the organizations involved in the sale of the bones of CBM. Luckily, we
moved at the right time and our Amiga products can "ride" with the products in
the more active markets.
I don't know if there will be any more shows, credible ones, at any rate…
we're going to be at the VTU show in December, but we won't be actively showing
Amiga applications – we've got a 1/2 booth space, can't do both. We sure won't
deny we have them, though. :^)

You should have attended the St. Louis show this year. It's just a tiny
regional show compared to the big WOC shows, but we made enough at it that even
if it had been in Toronto, it would have justified sending two people to it. We
were very pleasantly surprised.

I think that the smaller shows will be much better in the new market — the
people who go are really dedicated or they wouldn't be there, and they are
desperate for the lack of any larger shows.
I wonder if AmiJam in Calgary next July will be as good. Getting away from
Philly's humidity in July does sound good in principle…
