As for paying more at a dealer, I will gladly pay a little more just because the dealer is local. As long as the price difference isn't completely out of hand. It's nice to know that if I need something my dealer is right next to me….

Wayne, I had a deal going with a local dealer where I would always try them first. If they could sell the item for mail order + 15%, I would buy from them. If they couldn't meet that price, I went mail order. I used Computability as my mail order benchmark. About 2/3 of the time, the dealer was able to meet MO+15% and I got a fair price from a local dealer and drove home with the item. Tab Trepagnier Cruising on AutoPilot from Beaumont, Texas

That seems reasonable. On a few different occations with a few different dealers (Amiga and otherwise) in a few parts of the country, I've brought in a mail order ad and said "this is half your price. I know you offer more than a mail-order dealer, but can't you come closer to this price." I think every single time the answer has been "No."

Dale, I've done similar price comparisons with both Zipperware and Nybbles 'n' Bytes and they've both come down to 'near' mail order prices. That's great 'cause it's nice to be able to take the product home and plug it in as well as support your local dealers. Robb

Dale, Dealers are very careful to avoid giving away the shop. In my case, I told that dealer that I didn't expect them to match mail order. I pulled the 15% pretty much from the air. Sometimes I would buy at MO+20%, which might be a difference (from 15%) of $3. I simply didn't need the three bucks that bad. In some cases, hardware especially, they were double the mail order price or higher. In those cases, I ordered mail order. Tab Trepagnier Cruising on AutoPilot from Beaumont, Texas
