I'm trying to bring my orginal Amiga (I believe they were called 1000) back to life. I have an TECMAR 20mg IDE type drive, but the drive itself won't turn on, and is presumably dead. The controller, a sidecar expansion, is also kaput. Is there any data-recovery service who can get the data out, and what are my options about adding a new HD system?

Yes the first Amiga was the 1000. I believe there are recovery services that can recover data from trashed drives. As for adding a HD to the 1000. Most all hard drives for the 1000 stopped production long ago, you might find a used one at a dealer. The good news is that any HD for the 500, which there were alot more of, can be used on the 1000. Just turn the HD around so it faces the back of the 1000, and plug it in the expansion bus. You will have to prop the HD up as the bus on the 500 is lower. Richard -> AutoPilot on the A1000, the only Amiga without the C= logo.
