#Powerful? (Lightwave)

Brent: I just purchased Lightwave 3.5 (stand-alone) yesterday so should be
getting it this week sometime. I've seen some nasty rumors up on the
Internet saying that Lightwave 4.0 will be the last Amiga version
produced. Anyone know if those rumors are true? I would expect that NewTek
will eventually switch over to the PC and Mac platforms, but I was hoping
that they would support the Amiga for awhile longer.

I haven't heard that rumor. I would suspect that as long as people continue to
purchase software upgrades from NewTek, they will continue to develop them. The
Flyer alone will likely have some sort of future software update, and it would
be easy for Allen and Stuart to continue to update it.
The major problem with the Amiga version is that you can only make an Amiga go
so fast. The PC's have turned out to be so much faster that it is much cheaper
to upgrade your hardware.
Also, maybe some proof in disproving that rumor is that Stuart has designed a
toolkit that generates the interface gadgets for all 3 versions. This means
that the development for cross platform should be easy not only for NewTek, but
for 3rd party vendors that produce plug-ins.

As an aside… it should be noted that both Stuart and Allen do all of
their main programing on the Amiga still.
