Hey Alberto, chill man. This is all getting out of hand. I'm a pro editor — and I work for television in Hollywood. I use a Montage rig (PC based), which I like. It's OK with me if you use Avid — good machines. I got nothing against Mac. No one here does, and I'm not sure why you think people do. In the field that I work in — MOW's — there is no such thing as NL on-line. We do all of our on-line's in post houses because no NL editing machine, on either platform, is up to our standards for NTSC Broadcast video yet, though I hear PAL is a little easier to compress. It will not be long — maybe six months to a year — until that is no longer true. We should all have a few good years, on both platforms, of broadcast quality, though I plan to continue with the off-line /on-line routine until it is no longer feasable, which may be never — HDTV will become the American standard over the next decade, and that quality iwill be a lot harder to get on a desktop. In a few years — in this country — no matter how good your NTSC output is, you'll have an off-line setup again. I also like the on-line \ off-line set-up; even if it were a little cheeper to do it all on my desk, there are production quality factors that are more suited to a team than an individual. If we're all going to bicker over systems, let's do it constuctively. What are the features you like best about you system? How has it helped you out of tightr corners? What's its interface like? I've never seen a newscutter. Is it standard Avid, or are there differences? This forum is new, and we can take it in any direction we wish. Why don't we all bounce back up onto the high road, and start a useful dialog going on NL — the pros and cons of all the diferent systems. Best, CJH
