HELP!!!
I am STRUGGLING to learn C well enough to consider myself an apt programmer,
and I was doing just fine until I tried to do anything with screens or windows
in Aztec C ver. 3.20a . Every example I have seen is written in Lattice and
will not do anything when recompiled in Aztec. I even bought "The Key To C"
functions and library from Data Research Processing, BUT THE FRIGGIN' LIBRARY
IS MADE USING THE LATTICE LIBRARIAN!!! When I recompile the functions and put
them in the Aztec made library the same thing happens…NOTHING. Does anyone
have any source code or solutions for a "would be" C programmer that is slowly
losing his mind?? If you have a sample that opens and displays a window and
runs when compiled using Aztec..please Email.
Thanx,
John
Are you compiling with or without the +L switch in Aztec? (The +L
switch tells Aztec to use 32 bit ints which is what Lattice uses. Aztec
normally uses 16 bit ints.)
If you aren't using the +L switch you need to be sure you are casting
all the parameters passed to system routines (Intuition, Exec, etc.) to long
values. The system routines expect 32 bit ints not 16 bit ints. Also be sure
to include the functions.h file. It defines the correct return values for all
the system routines.
Once you stick in the casts you should have no problems at all. Or if
you just want to make sure you have the code typed in right try compiling with
the +L switch. (If you use the +L switch be _sure_ to link with the 32 bit
library files not the 16 bit ones.) The code produced with +L is a little
larger and slower but when learning that isn't a major concern.

Dan,
I didn't realize I needed the 32 ints. I also didn't know about functions.h.
I'll give it a shot. If it doesn't work still I think I'll just wait a few
weeks to cool off and try again.
Thanx,
John
If it doesn't work — don't wait a few weeks! Ask again — we'll get you
going!
Steve,
It worked and I'm back on track (almost). I don't think I really could stay
away from my Amiga for that long anyway. Do you know anything about the Aztec
librarian?? I seem to be having problems adding modules to the end of (or
beginning) my library using the lb libname -a+ format. When I look at my
library all I have is one module and that's all it will allow. I'm running with
1.5 megabytes and am doing the creations and additions in a ramdisk.
John
I'm not familiar with the librarian (never used it) but I believe that it is
buggy. Aztec is about to ship their update (for free to owners of the
commercial system) and will included lots of bug fixes (like db not working
under 1.2) and a LOT of new features.
