Several questions dealing with getting files to and from the IBM
world using a newly purchased transformer.
1. Can or will it be made to work using WB 1.2?
]2. What communications programs will work?
3. Will there be a direct way of transferring files to and from the
Amiga side? Will sidecar initially or eventually do this?
The only schemes I can think of are dialing to a neutral computer
or writing an Amiga C program to do rudimentary reads and writes to
a 3.5 (or 5.25) MS-DOS formatted disks.

To answer your questions:
At this time it will not work with 1.2 and I don't believe Commodore is
willing to pay Simile to do the upgrade (although Simile has already doen the
upgrade, they can't sell it without going thru Commodore).
It will run most communications programs, but at about 1/2 to 1/3
speed.
With your 1.2 Extras disk, there are PCUtilities that will transfer
MS-DOS files back and forth from MS-DOS formatted disks and Amiga formatted
disks.

I have never been able to get a lot of comm software to function reliably under
Transformer, even at 300 baud. Notably, Procomm connects ok, but then data
coming downline goes somewhere (not the screen). Occasionaly a line nearly got
displayed, but then display stopped. I suspect timing (as in Transformer isn't
fast enough) problems. This occurs whether you (Procomm) are doing BIOS or
direct screen writes. Even bare Kermit (2.26) wouldn't transfer files
reliably.

We tried it with a couple of terminal programs, it did work, but
miserably….really not worth the effort.

Have you heard of a program called speedy3. Its supposed to speed up the
transformer. I read about it in AmigaWorld page 10 of the Jan-Feb issue. Please
if anyone else has heard about this program please contact me here.

We have it in DL 9 as SPEED3.COM. It is an MS-DOS program so it can't
be run until you get the Amiga into MS-DOS mode, I'd suggest you place the call
to load it in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

A version of transformer for 1.2 that works, and allows using auto config ram
up to 640k for dos has been created. A newer version or versions with cleaned
up communications is being done now. The problem here is that CBM has shown no
inclination to allow it to reach us, and it's my understanding that Simile is
not allowed to release it on their own (even though cbm tells you to contact
Simile) so don't hold you r breath – do yell at CBM. Use the code on the 1.2
extras disk for the file transfer. Ron

Awww, Larry, be sympathetic! Transformer works OK for some things, like the
BedFord accounting program. You know me, I got upset with the IBM Printer on
my desk, imagine how I would feel if I had to have a PC (Even a PC 10-II) on my
desk!
Transformer allows me to keep SOME of my sanity!

Larry, I just finish entering a years worth of accounting data at home using
the transformer and Computer associates accounting package for the IBM. It
worked great and sure beats bagging up the office pc and bring it home.

You got it Ron. That is what the Transformer is for, not Flight Sim. People
think it sucks, but personally, I think it is great.
Anyway, Ron, this is Bri, not Larry, but I am sure he will see the message
anyway.

I think it's a little late for that. Besides, its not a question of whether
they released it, but what condition they released it in. It wasn't ready at
the time, and they've resisted all efforts and desire by Simile to get it ready
(they could theoretically make more money on Sidecar). Ron
