#IBM BRIDGEBOARD SOUND

HELP!!!
I bought a bridgeboard about two weeks ago. I can't get any sound out of
it. I've tried to connect three different speakers to the J2 connectors but I
haven't had any luck yet. Only one of the computer stores around me has even
seen a bridgeboard yet. As far as I know I have one of the four here in town. I
tried calling Commodore in Pennsylvania, but they weren't any help. Today I
took the board back to the computer store where I bought it so that they could
take a look at it. Everything else on it seems to work fine. I bou the IBM game
Might and Magic and the game is fine, just no sound yet. Has anyone else had
this problem or is it just me. I was also curious as to how many people have
the bridgeboard yet.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to get sound (i.e. what I'm doing
wrong ) please let me know!!!!

Hi – Just a short note. I've had my bridgecard equipped machine for about
one month now. I LOVE it !!!! I must confess I have not connected a speaker as
the first thing I did to my PC/XT at work was to put a CUT OUT switch to shut
off the sound (really beeps). I've been running mostly Dbase III+.
The only problem I've run into is the fact that for some reason the
bridgecard will not recognize the second serial port on my multi-function card.
I'm not really sure why, but there has been rumors that that area of memory is
used to shuttle info between PC and AMIGA busses.

Hi. The reason you can't use the second serial port on you multifunction card
is that we use COM2 interrupt to run the communications between the Amiga and
Bridge card dual ported ram.

Your answer about COM2 on the BridgeBoard brings up another question.
What is the SERIAL ON/SERIAL OFF gadget used for in PCPrefs? Would that
disable the COM2 interupt?
Also, I've noticed that if you move the Janus Handler from E000 to some
other address (D000 or A000), the shared utilities (JLink, ARead, AWrite) don't
seem to work, althou the board itself does work. Do those utilities expect to
find the Janus Handler at E000 and can that default be changed?

No…the serial on/off does nothing right now. Also, you can't move the
interface to other memory. This is being addressed in a new janus.library
being worked on in Germany now. Actually, aread/awrite and jlink will be
changine to follow rules to make them more friendly with other programs going
to use the interrupt.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I had to move the Janus Handler to be able
to configure a multi-function board (it wanted to load EMS RAM at E000 and the
whole system wouldn't boot with both EMS and Janus there). The system worked
fine with Janus at D000 except for the shared utilites…so that's what I
figured was wrong. Anyway, once I got the system booted, I was able to move
the EMS pageing area to another location and move Janus back to E000 so all is
now well.
I'll be looking forward to the new Janus stuff when it's ready.

Does that mean that the ability to have a modem and run, say, GEM, with a
serial mouse it out on the BridgeBoard?
You're using the COM2: to handle the Janus stuff? Hmm. That means that this is
just a zero-slot LAN with a heavy emphasis on the "zero-slot", doesn't it.

Shouldn't that be a "Zorro-slot" LAN?
I guess you could call it a tightly coupled LAN if you were willing to stretch
some.

I just posted a message to the same effect (no sound from a bridgeboard). My
"test program" is ASTRO GROVER for my 4-yr-old. I'll be reading your
experience.

BridgeBoard has no speaker. To get sound, plug in a speaker at J2. That's what
the manual says — I tried it and still got no sound.
OK…that's two independent statements that even an external speaker doesn't
work on the Bridgeboard. Has anybody gotten the speaker to work on the IBM
side?? I suppose it shows which of us are playing games and which are doing
work…those doing work don't CARE if they get sound, but ASTRO GROVER really
misses it.

I've gotten the bridgecard audio out by connecting J2 to the audio input on my
2002 monitor. One side of the jack is grounded to watch the polarity of the
cable. Perhaps there is not sufficient output drive for the speaker you are
using.
