HELP! In order to insure domestic tranquility, I must install a second
phonline. But the nice pholks at the fone company say at least 200 dollars!
How can this be? Anybody out there got comments? Emmet Patoma
Emmet,
How can this be? Thank the breakup of the phone company…that's how
it can be. $200 sounds low compared to some figures I've seen.

I have call-waiting (and no disable option in this area), and got a
second line to keep from getting bumped off. I was told it would cost
around $150 (this is in the Kansas City area). However, I lucked out,
for I discovered a second junction block in the basement, and a second
line already coming into the house (thanks to the previous owners). So,
it only cost me about $50 for the second line to be hooked up.
I just installed a 2nd phone line myself, only cost me $18. The phone co only
had to hook up the second line to the outside of the house, I set up the
inside. Each phone requires 2 leads, luckily my home was wired with phone
cable which had 4 leads, so the installation inside was pretty easy.

I wired my second line (inside the house) myself, also. All the phone
company did was run a missing ground line and turn on the line.
Still cost $50. Quite a difference from $18! Ah well, too late to do
anything about it now!
