#IBM 3270 TERMINAL

Many (most?) VM shops have a software program that emulates a 3278 if you
have the appropriate asynch terminal. Ours are called SIM3278/VM and
SIM3278/VTAM. I posted a termdef to allow generic ANSI terminals such as
most Amiga terminals into one of the DLs here.

Greg, *IF* its a VM shop. My employer hates VM and loves MVS.
It seems that IBM is pushing MVS on most large shops. Of course, if they're a
small Time Sharing shop then VM is the most likely OS.

Actually SIM3278/VTAM was designed for and operates under MVS (VTAM
application program). I suspect that if your employer hates VM but loves MVS he
must be running CICS (or something similar) – try loading up 500+ TSO address
spaces under MVS (or even MVS/XA) and see why users (the ones that pay the
bills !) love VM. You know the old saying "TSO may be slow but it sure is hard
to use !" Also, to be a little more accurate IBM is not pushing most large
shops to MVS – VM outsells MVS in both small (ex 4300) and large (ex 3090)
shops by a considerable margin, instead, IBM is now pushing Cross System
Architectures and products (works in the VM, MVS, DOS/VSE, and PC
environments). I guess this is a bit outside the AMIGA forum but I thought a
reply was in order.
P.S. I've worked with VM, MVS, VS1, MVT, and DOS and the bottom line is that
they all have strengths and weaknesses – you must choose the one that best
meets your needs.

In fact, they are spending millions in the attempt to make the
conversion painless and easy. My shop currently runs DOS/VSE on
a 3081GX and is installing a 3090-150E. We just kicked off an
MVS/XA conversion today. Although I agree with you – VM is very
nice and Xedit beats the SPF editor hands down.
