There are expansion devices that would allow you to use a 2090 with an
A500. No matter what thou, you'd need some form of controller for the drive,
and a power supply/enclosure for the drive itself.
In other words, no matter what route you go…it's going to cost a fair
amount of money to hook a HD up to an A500.
Yes, unless you use an RLL controller, and I know of none for the Amiga
that can be used directly, althou you can use an intermediate controller to
convert the RLL controller to SCSI and the SCSI to the Amiga…then it isn't
worth the extra money for an 8438 at this time.
