#Compres convert script

Mike? A quick question…are your BBS files stored with extensions indicating
their format (ie .zoo, .arc, .lzh, .zip, .pak)? If so, I've got a script that
will convert them. Uses AShell and Arp. I convert currently to ZOO for
convenience (I find lharc too slow for normal use, but for a bbs, you'd want
lharc for compression), but the script could be very easily edited to your
needs.

Zharc too slow? While, I agree that Zharc's processing takes longer than does
Zoo's processing, I can arc/dearc five or six files with Lharc during the time
that Zoo takes just looking through the directory!

Yes, LHARC is way too slow. The answer to the bug in the current version of
Zoo that causes it to needlessly scan directories is to bug the author of the
Amiga version to release the next rev, which does not exhibit that problem.
Alternatively, using files in a near empty directory reduces the problem, and
even with the copying required, it will still outrun LHARC.

Yes, that indeed is what I do. It is much quicker to copy a file to RAM: and
then un-zoo it (or whatever). BTW, LHarc does not seem very slow on an '030
<smile>.
