Sometimes when I get an error message about a disk, and it says "Use DISKDOCTOR
to correct" Where is this disk doctor?? Thanks.

DiskDoctor is supplied with the Amiga Enhancer package, or with 1.2 or 1.3
versions of the operating system. I found mine in my c: directory.

DiskDoctor is in your c: directory – but don't use it until you have exhausted
your other resources first. It can, occasionally, fix a disk – but it writes
directly to that disk and it deletes programs it cannot fix. Always try
DiskSalv first. (Lib14, DSKSLV.ARC) It rescues far more files than DiskDoctor
does, and it does NOT write to your original disk, so you have an option of
trying other methods if it should ever fail to work. Most of the time, it
works if the disk can be read at all.

I don't have a modem nor a null cable for my AMiga. I have an internal apple
modem. I could use any help!

Which Apple machine are you using? Sounds like the null cable is the cheapest
way to go. You could probably build one yourself using Radio Shack parts. For
some reason, I thought you had an IBM clone.

Please tell me what term you are using, what you are doing to start
downloading, and what error messages (or other stuff) is happening at that
point. If I know exactly what is happening, perhaps I can help you. Please
tell me what protocol you use, too.

Mike, one thing that may take a little getting used to on the Amiga:
after you have done some disk operation, such as saving a file, renaming a
file, copying, … the program may appear to finish. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean
that the program is done writing to the disk. There is OFTEN still data in some
buffer somewhere waiting to be written to disk. Its always safe to wait 5-10
seconds after doing a disk-write before removing the disk or shutting the
computer off. If you shut the computer off before the data is written, that
DISKDOCTOR requestor may rear its ugly head.

P.S. Don't use diskdoctor, even if it tells you to!
I used diskdoctor on a disk that was giving me trouble, and it works fine now.
What is so bad about it?

Diskdoctor is criticized because it assumes that any file that cannot be
resurrected cleanly should be deleted. This is a "safety first" attitude.
Alternate approaches are to resurrect absolutely everything and let the user
decide which files are damaged-beyond-hope and bad-but-not-impossible.
DOes it ask you if you want it deleted after it has check them? Or does it
delete them without even asking?
