Geez, I wish I'd read this thread before 11/27!
HP sells a genuine Adobe PS cart for the IIP and the III! Tim has the
PacData cart in his IIP and doesn't get Type 3's!
How much memory you need depends on how "trick" your pages are, especially
if you want to DL fonts or use a lot of bitmaps.
Personal Publishing recently did a test of various PS clones with a tricky
graphic. The graphic is in the DTPForum BROing with a key of LYLES should
bring it up. I think lib 6. The clones did not print the graphic correctly.
The extent of the errors varied. I don't think the PacData/IIP was among
the group tested.
I'm sold on genuine Adobe. Got my manual done on a 600×600 Varityper VT600.

Well, just got the Pacific Page PE cart yesterday, and I'm having
no troubles thus far! I've tested it with various outputs from many
sources, the main one being Professional Page and ProScript (can't wait for
my upgrade of ProWrite to arrive so I can print straight from the menu!). I
have 2.5 meg in my IIP, and have printed some fairly heavy graphics pgs.
with NO problems!
The only thing I have noticed is that the PostScript output is a
bit darker than that of "Dot Matrix" mode in Pro Page. Not really a problem
so far, it actually prints halftone screens better (closer to the screen
tones).
Can't say I have a qualm yet!

Since I left that message, I was at Tim's place and saw the IIP/PacData in
action. Pretty impressive. I think the missing Type 3 is the only anomaly
he's experienced. I was particularly impressed with the consistent density
of black over a large area. Couldn't see any variation at all.

I can't seem to find the graphic in the DTPForum, lib 6 BRO:LYLES. Any
more information on what the file's called or where else it might be? (I'm
still real new around here, with some difficulty moving around in the forum
areas unless I've got Whap! to help…
Also, has Pixelations gone on to another life, or what has become of
Pixelscript? I've tried to contact them via phone many times, and have yet
to get a response…

Pixelations has gone kind of dormant due to the recession — I'm mainly
doing consulting work for the moment. I still come onto CIS regularly, and
I try to answer the mail promptly.
