#PKAZIP

Whatever happened to PKAZIP? Has that project assumed room temperator? If
so, what was the last version created? Was a CLI version ever made? If
it's still alive, where can I get the latest version?
Anyone?
Andrew
Living proof of absolutely nothing.
I met Phil Katz at COMDEX earlier this month. He assures me that PKAZIP is
alive and well. It is not a public domain program however.
Andrew,
PKAZIP is in Library 5 of AmigaUser. No CLI version, unfortunately, but
the version we have works nicely. I don't recall the number.

It seems to me that there's a catch 22 here – if you don't have an unzip
program, then you can't unzip the unzip program you've downloaded. Is
there a non-compressed version of a decompression routine on any of the
libraries? I'm at the very beginning of the process, and I don't have a
way to unzip programs that I've downloaded. I just finished downloading
the Compuserve front-end program for Amiga, but I don't know how to
decompress it for execution. Suggestions?
Mitch,
We have LHARC.EXE, ARC.EXE, and ZOO.EXE. We do not have an executable ZIP.
As a matter of fact, most of our files are in LHARC format, and I think,
not sure, that PKAZIP is packed with LHARC as well – so if you go to
library 5 of AMigaUser and get LHARC.EXE, you can unpack most of our files.
You might also want to get ARCHLP.EXE, a tutorial on using the archivers.
If you download LHARC.EXE program, then put it in your C: directory,
renaming it to LHARC. Then, to unpack Whap19c, you need to do this:
Format a disk named Whap (no exclamation point)
Put that disk into df1: and the program (cannot recall its exact name, but
it's similar to WH19C.LZH) into ram: and type:
CD DF1:
lharc -m -x x ram:wh19c
And that should put the whole program onto your disk named Whap, ready for
use.
If you need more help, please ask.
Betty
Andrew,
PKAZIP's latest version is 1.01 and is in LIB 5 named PKAZIP1.LZH. It
is supposed to be a bug fix for version 1.0. I have and have used 1.0 with
no problems although I don't find much out there that is zipped anymore.
