Hi Melissa. I have a demo of Bars & Pipes and was impressed with its
features. I haven't made up my mind yet as to what sequencer I will buy
yet-it's a toss up between your package,KCS V3.0,and Music-X. My only
reservation about your package is that it's too gimmicky. What I mean by
this is that the screen contains gadgets that look unprofessional(the
jagged pieces) and make the screen look cluttered. Don't get me wrong I do
like the package but its looks need to be changed.
I've been working in a friends basement studio(vedy-vedy nice BTW) and they
Voyerta Mark III for the (gasp) IBM. This is a rock solid program and is
very full featured. Granted it doesn't have gadgets or pull down menus, but
I can whip around data with this program in a snap-very well done package.
The screen is undestracting layed out well which makes it very easy to use.
So please please take my itsy-bitsy-teeny-weeny-puny gripe into
consideration. Again you have vedy-vedy good AMIGA only package that does
the job very well. BTW change that sax pointer-yuck!.

dEAR dARRICK,
You'll be pleased to know that the new Bars&Pipes Professional, which
debuts in a month, is absolutely gimmick-free. In fact, its interface is
nothing short of stunning. Really! Aside from good looks, Bars&Pipes
Professional includes notation display and printing, automated mixing,
graphical song construction, merge recording and tons more, inm addition to
the powerful features introduced in the origibal Bars&Pipes.
As you can see, we do listen!

Melissa, the Bars&Pipes Professional info sounds great. I hope an upgrade
will be available to all registered users. I have version 1.0f.
By the way, I consistently get a system error requester (retry/cancel)
when using the Smoose accessory, which "crashes" my machine. Has anyone
reported problems with it?
Dear Benjamin,
All currently registered Bars&Pipes users will be able to upgrade for
$99. This is a bargain considering that the price of Bars&Pipes
Professional will debut at $379. Look for information about upgrading in
the next issue of QUAARTER NOTES.
As for the SMoose bug, this is the first I've heard. I'm sorry that
you're having difficulities. I'll pass this on to the technical types here
and see what they can do about it for you.
Melissa
Will B&P Professional include an editor using standard musical notation ?
–>Steve Bennett
Bars&Pipes Professional includes both standard notation and event list
editing among its new editing features. We also introduce in Bars&Pipes
Professional Global Song Construction, a new global editing technique which
replaces A-B-A and then some.
Thanks. I will look forward to the next issue of QUARTER NOTES and in
upgrading. As to the SMoose bug, I will either send a FAX or write a letter
explaining in more detail the "symptons" which I get. In any case, if
Bars&Pipes Professional's notation capabilites meet or exceed those of
DMCS, I will be eternally grateful. Currently, I've been most productive
using DMCS multitasked with KCS using "loopback recording" (i.e. MIDI out
to MIDI in) to get all of DMCS' MIDI output capabilities recorded into KCS
with the least amount of conversion (otherwise thru SMUS) "headaches". And
I have been having a great deal of fun using various tools for
auto-accompaniment. While I have just gotten my M1.1b upgrade and have lots
of fun with it.

Melissa,
Is this interface changed in any way from the current version of
Bars&Pipes?
Regards,
Allen
The interface has changed a great deal. For example, all of the central
elements in Bars&Pipes have been grouped into resizeable, relocateable
windows. The windows themselves are of a three dimensional, sculpted look.
Those who have seen it think its gorgeous. Certainly no other Amiga music
package comes close!
Those who call to request information will receive a brochure in three
weeks.
Melissa
Thanks for the reply Melissa. I will give you a call.
Regards,
Allen
