Purple Worms

As someone has mentioned, the best way to kill purple worms is the
"DM two-step" (moving sideways, turning 90 deg., etc) in a 2×2 square.
DO NOT run away, DO NOT use doors (these approaches don't get you any
experience!), DO NOT waste magic on them (your characters usually won't
have enough mana at this point). Go real slow, and attack only one pair
of them at a time. Put two fighters up front with axes. If you do it
right they won't even get hit. When I use the DM two-step on worms,
I kill one of them so fast the other one runs away and I have to go
chase it. Beautiful sight. I have killed the dragon with one character
doing the DM two-step – it works.

A different approach to purple worms.
The level where you first encounter the worms has no food or water and
after tring to get through it a number of times it dawned on me that time
was of the essence. I tried not to fight anything but just get through as
fast as I could. When the worms first appeared I ran back out the door to
the room and waited for them. when they were right in front of me I stepped
back unto the teleporter – ran into the room and closed the door!
The second place that I meet a _large_ number of worms – I ran into the
room and tossed posion gas jars. The one or two that lived were easy to run
around.

Tom – sure, that'll work, but I think you're missing some points…
– Yes, there is no food on the floor in the worm level – you EAT THE
WORMS! (Ugh, I can't believe I said that :v) ). There is also
plenty of water on the previous level. Therefore time is not of
the essence.
– By running away you get zero fighter experience which makes later
levels tougher.
– The reason you get lots of worms at some point is that you run
all over the place and don't kill any. This lets them go further
around corners. If you go *real* slow, they only advance so far,
then stop at walls. I only dealt with one pair at a time for the
whole level except at the end, where you normally have to retreat.
Also closing doors makes them regenerate in places. By the way,
an alternate way out at the end, if you can survive it, is to
just jump in the pit and forget the whole end of level.

Ken,
I was giving a second method about the worms. When I fought; I used
energy and got hungry and died! I did get a lot of worms when I left them
alone; only when I stood still and fought them. The experience I did
receive didn't hurt my on later levels. But then "tougher then what?" I
only had my experience to look at. Not tring to start a war; just giving an
alternate method that did work.

Starting a war? Huh? Over purple worms? If we start a war it should be
about something juicier, like why the Atari TT is better than the 3000. ;-l
