Here's a few more questions:
Does the FireCracker board have composite and RGB video outputs? Couldn't
you output both signals to the Amiga monitor and switch between them?
Couldn't you interlace your workbench screen in the Preferences under 1.3
?
What is the difference between overlay mode and other modes that the
FireCracker uses?
Does the Firecracker install in the Video slot?
I read somwhere that since it's a genlock it would probably not
work with internal genlocks such as the SuperGen 2000S,which is
what I am currently using.Does the Fircracker work as a stand
alone genlock with with programs like Pro Video or Deluxe Paint? If so is
the quality of the genlock as good as the SuperGen?
Do you mean you have to exit Imagine or Silver and boot a separate program
to view a rendering in 24 bit.
Is it posible to use the Video Toaster's framebuffer for 24 bit output of
other programs.Could I build objects in Imagine or Silver,transfer them to
LightWave to render and output through the Toaster's framebuffer.Or build
and render in Silver or Imagine,then transfer the rendered files to the
Toaster to output in 24 bit.
I guess I need to do a lot more homework on all this before I invest.Thanks

Whew! Some other people are going to have to answer some of those, but let
me take a whack at a few of them.
The Firecracker has only RGB output — very clean RGB output, as far as I
can tell.
You can Interlace your workbench screen and use the Firecracker in Overlay
Mode, but you will have to live with the flicker.
Overlay Mode uses the Firecracker as a genlock — it overlays the Amiga
image on the Firecracker image. The only other mode is two monitor mode,
which shows the Amiga and Firecracker images on 2 seperate monitors.
The Firecracker goes in a Zorro 2 slot, not the video slot.
To quote the Firecracker manual, if you have a board in the video slot,
"the chances of the Firecracker operating properly using the Amiga output
as overlay is almost non existent."
Yes, you have to exit Silver or Imagine and run a special display program
to view a 24 bit or higher-than-Amiga-resolution picture. If you want to
see your image as HAM at an Amiga resolution, you won't have to leave your
program.
I think Rick left a message about displaying images on the Toaster. I know
very little about it — just what I've seen in the articles.
I sympathise with you — this is a tough (and expensive) decision. You may
want to try to get a chance to look at a Toaster and at a Firecracker
before you make your decision. I can certainly testify that the
Firecracker's output is amazing.

Brian, I've tested the Firecracker and Toaster in the same machine and they
both worked great. I sacrificed the overlay capability of the Firecracker
and had to take the RGB out to another monitor, but at least people won't
have to discard their Magni and supergen genlocks in order to get 24bit
output. –Rick
