Can anyone reccomend a good personal accounting program? I'm looking for

I've been using Phasar (published by Antic Software) for about 3 years.
I've found it to be quite reliable. (Of course, I _never_ stay within
budget, but I can't blame that one on the software <grin>).

Yes, I bought the Phasar 4.0 upgrade. I felt it was kind of expensive,
but think that the improvements made to the program are worth it. Much
nicer interface (it's much more "Amiga-like" now), and a bit more flexible.

I tried Phasar 3.0 (free veresion in A+ mag) and actually got the manual
for it but it was too restrictive and, for my taste, counter intuitive.
Basically, it looked a lot like a MessyDos program ported over.
DeskTop budget is very Amiga-ized and real easy to use. Early versions had
problems with balancing accounts fed by split auto payments. Its availabel
reports were slim. I keep hoping GD will fix the balancing problem and add
a decent report writer feature. However, even as it is, it is adequate to
see where the dough goes…

While Phasar 3.0 did not have a very Amiga-tized interface, it was a
well thought-out interface and quite easy to use once one "adapted". The
4.0 version is much more Amiga-tized and very nice, interface-wise.

I kept running out of space for account numbers and names. Did Phasar 4.0
allow more flexibilityin this area?

Much greater flexibility. If I recall correctly, you still have to
configure it for a finite number, but can "reconfigure" it later to expand,
if needed. Limits are based on available memory. Reconfiguration is a
"slight" pain, as it needs to "correct" all of the transactions recorded,
and consequently takes a little while and exposes the database slightly.
Of course, a prudent backup prior to the re-org solves this problem. Just
probably not something you'd want to do every day.
