Are there any Amiga ports of the Unix utilities 'diff' and 'patch'? –Jim

Yes, we have a diff port. I think it's in the programming utilities library. Steve

Jim, Both diff and patch exist for the Amiga. I don't know if patch is on CIS, though diff is. If you can't find patch, let me know, and I'll upload it. (This is the most current release, v2.0, patchlevel 12.) –dds

I must not be thinking straight tonight, because I can't even find diff. (I've been online an hour, doing nothing but reading messages in other forums. Ack!) –Jim

Hi Jim, I guess that makes two of us, since I couldn't find either one of them myself. So I've uploaded them to the AmigaTech New Uploads library. They'll show up there, and probably in the Programmer's Utilities library when one of the Sysops validates them. (The files are Patch.lzh and Diff.lzh.) You've been spending an hour online reading messages?? Eek! Stop what you're doing, and immediately grab a copy of Whap! from whichever Forum it's in (AmigaUser, I think). The demo version works quite well, and the registered version (~$40.00) works even better. You can do all your message reading and writing off line, along with deciding which files to up- or down-load. It's a great program. I'm using it right now. Beats wandering around CIS in real-time with a terminal program, let me tell you. Saves lots of money. ('Course, you can then join lots more Formums, and spend even *more* money, if you're not careful! <g>) Note To Our Sysops: All this talk of diff and patch has given me an idea. (Uh oh, we're in trouble now…) When a library index is posted, how about making a diff of the previous index versus the current one, and posting the diff as well? That way, people would only have to download the full index once, and could keep up to date via the diff file. –dds
