No – there have been none to compare. The HAM-E was shipping (by a long
margin) before the FireCracker; nothing else at all is shipping now. A
review wouldn't be a review, it would be a preview. :^)
Since the FireCracker just started shipping, I imagine (pun intended) that
the first reviews should follow in 30-60 days.
As for reviews of the HAM-E, I know of none pending; there is a comparison
or some kind of multiple look at the FireCracker, the Toaster, and the
HAM-E planned by AmigaWorld. I don't know when it will be forthcoming,
though.
Our ads hit in January in Amiga plus; in January in Amazing's tech journal;
and in march (longer lead time) in AmigaWorld. I suspect, (mind you I'm a
cynic) that reviews will be more important to the various magazines now.
I would like to see a review done by a user, who paid $$$ for the thing. My
faith in others is low.

HeHe, I'm not sure if you would want me to do a review of Ham-E Ben because
I'm too honest. Amazing had me write up a review of some hardware once, but
since it was negative, it never got published. From the mail I have been
reading here on USER, I have a feeling you will get some nice praise once
the reviews do come out. I will be up in Spokane, Wa. for the holidays, so
hopefully I will get out to some of the Amiga stores and see if any of them
have the Ham-E for demo.

I'd be surprised if the reason that the article was rejected just because
it was a negative review. I've written reviews for them before, some of
which were negative, and they've all be published. There was probably
another reason for it.

Well Steve, I'm not sure what to think about the article I wrote. All the
negative points I mentioned were true and researhed carefully. When I
talked to the editor, he thought that it was a very good article and would
appear in Amazing ASAP, but it was never printed. At the time, the company
was putting in half and full page ads in the magazine, so maybe financial
considerations were more important. Don't get me wrong, I think Amazing is
a fine magazine and they do publish reviews that are honest. It might be
that there were other reasons the article never appeared in print that I
was not aware of. It did turn me off to writing reviews because I was asked
to write it in the first place, spent a lot of time in researching the
product and why it wouldn't work properly, but got nothing out of it except
the experience.

I agree Ben. I've seen some reviews where it was obvious that the person
spent very little time with the software/hardware before he wrote his
article. I have written reviews for the club newsletter in which case I
usually wait a month or so after using the product throughly before I send
it in. Anyway, I can't wait to see one of the HAM-E's in operation. Quite a
few of our local small town Amigan's are interested in it, so I've been
saving the mail here on CIS$. Merry Christmas and stay out of the spiked

Wish I'd seen a HAM-E at WOC/A in Toronto! Not saying that there wasn't one
there, you understand (don't know about that), just that I'd like to see
one. The Toaster was well-displayed and dealer lassoed me and dragged me in
to look at the Firecracker. But still haven't seen a HAM-E.

We show at the AmiExpo shows, Malcolm. You should begin to see them around;
CBM Canada has one (or someone there does) and they told me that there was
one in the GVP booth (again, hearsay only, I knew nothing of this).
There are quite a large number of Canadians who have them now… but it is
a big country.
