#New PAULA?
7 messages in this thread
There are some tantalizing rumours circulating that a new Paula chip is in
the works, which has CD-quality sampling and Eight Voices. From what I
hear, it will work with old or new Agnus.
Christopher,
Where did you hear this rumour? I've been hoping they would do something
like this; I was very disappointed when the new chip set was announced and
there was no new Paula. Maybe it'll be ready when the 2.0 roms and chip
upgrades are available

I heard it from a couple music-fanatic friends on mine (Amiga users). I
think they got the rumour from Plink. All in all, not the most reliable of
sources. Keep your eyes open…
Christopher,
I hope you're right about a new Paula in development. I also hope that
they improve the serial port while they're at it. It'd be nice to have
higher quality sound and more voices.

I've heard about this, too… plus a newer graphics chip with 256 colors
on-screen at once. Plus faster serial port support, and new support for
1.44 meg drives. Neat stuff! Someday, someday…
On Usenet one of the Commodore people working on the chip set actually
said something! He made it quite clear that there is a lot of work going on
to improve the chip set but reminding people how much time it takes in
order for it to be cheap enough for an A500 and upwardly compatible.
He did mention that giving a 24 bit palette wouldn't be too hard,
although true 24 bit graphics would be quite hard.

Ethan,
Wow, this is all great news!!! I'm not saying a _word_ about it though
until it's finally out in final release and CBM has made its own
determinations on who and what for and how much and where and why. <g> Nice
to know they're busy, though — I _knew_ they were, I just knew it!
