#Using AMouse

How do you use AMouse with the BB. I know you run AMouse on both the Amiga
and the DOS sides? But I can't remember the combination Alt or Ctrl keys
which activates it and I can't locate the docs in this mess I have here.

Bill,
Left-Amiga/P will toggle the mouse between the Amiga and the Bridgeboard
control.

I don't see the docs, and I don't use that much, but I think the keys are
left-Amiga-P.

You run Amouse on the Amiga side first, before running the driver software
on the MS-Dos side. If you don't you'll get a warning message telling you
the Amiga side Amouse is not active. At this point Joystick/Mouse port #2
is active on the Amiga side as a mouse port for the IBM side. If you have
a second Amiga Mouse, you can plug it into port 2, and have a mouse for
each side simultaniously. Otherwise use Left Amiga + P to switch between
the Amiga and MS-Dos for your mouse.
Hope this gets you going. BTW… The command is found on page 77 of the
1989 version of the A2286/A2088 Bridgeboard manual.

Alex, is there a way I can get the mouse on my monitor hooked up to a SVGA
card? I have to keep Video Ram off for some reason (PC Prefs).

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. If you use Amouse, you should be
able to enable the mouse use on the PC side by pressing Left Amiga + P at
the same time. Then when you want to go back to using the mouse on the
Amiga side, you would press it again, and the mouse on your Amiga screen
would become active. (Actually, they are both always active, you are just
determining which port is feeding which machine. (Once you run amouse,
port 1 [the normal mouse port] is feeding the Amiga, and port 2 [commonly
used for joy sticks] is feeding the BridgeBoard.) Personally, I have two
mice, due to a buisness trip, on which I left the original mouse behind, so
I bought a second one, and finally have a use for both. The reason you
have to keep video Ram off, is because otherwise your BirdgeBoard thinks it
has two monitors hooked up. If you are asking if you can have your Amiga
pointer appear on the SVGA screen… I'm afraid not. When you run the CGA
or Monochrome emulation of the BridgeBoard, you are passing the graphics
information to the Amiga, which then simulates a MS-Dos machine display,
within the Amiga oerating system. The Amiga mouse pointer shows up,
because the Amiga is doing all the work, and the display is actually an
Amiga task running in an Amiga Dos window. When you use a honest yo gosh
video card for the Bridegboard, and feed to a monitor, the display never
passes through the Amiga, and therefore the Amiga pointer can't be seen.
And…. If you were asking about something else, well then I misunderstood,
and hope somebody got something out of all this.

I got a whole bunch out of that! Thanx, I see now that my next step is to
buy a serial card for the BB. Will I need a Messy Mouse or can I use a
garden variety Mouse?

You will need to buy a MS-Dos serial mouse to run off your serial port, on
the Bridgeboard. (Unless you choose to run Amouse, and do it all with the
Amiga mouse.) The MS-Dos meeces, and the Amiga mouse, are not the same.

I have heard of people using the Logitec Trackball on an Amiga. I'd like
to do that but need to get the pinouts for the setup. You wouldn't happen
to know them, would you?

Sorry, I don't have the pinouts for the logictech track ball. Seems to me
there was a file floating aound that told you how to modify a logitech
mouse to work with the Amiga, somehwere here on CServe. If you can find
that (AmigaFileFinder or a sympathetic user with a GREAT memory), you
should be able to do the same for the trackball. (Since the meeces and
trackballs all have to talk to the MS-Dos machines on the same pins, in the
same way, you should be able to use the same instructions for both.)
