#A Tax Program???

Does anyone know of a software package for tax planning and preparation?
I've been looking all over for one but can't seem to find anything. Form
generation isn't really necessary, although it would be nice <g>! I
remember a company marketing a product called DataTax about a year ago, but
when I dug up an old magazine with the ad and called the company they told
me that they didn't support an Amiga product any longer <heavy sigh>.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!

I was about to suggest DataTax. Didn't know they no longer
supported the Amiga, since I've used their product for the past few years.
Their product was called Tax Break and was supported by Oxxi. You might
try them to see if they still have Tax Break. Another product, Phasar,
provides some tax preparation software, but not, I believe, satisfactory
for IRS preparation. There was a third product, name escapes me, but they
may start advertising around tax time. I'd keep an eye out after the first
of the new year.

DataTax STILL exists, I just got an update notice from them for
1991 tax forms. It should be available around mid January 1992. Their

Yep, so did I, just today. If I see that other person's message I will
pass that on to them. Someone else had said they called and were told they
no longer supported the Amiga, so perhaps they called the wrong company. I
am mailing my order form in tomorrow.

Thanks for the information!! From what I read in the rest of this thread,
the DataTax software still DOES exist. Now I'm wondering who I really
called <g>! They seemed to know exactly what I was talking about, but then
again maybe they didn't know and were trying to sound important?

You MAY have talked with OXXI, who handled it last year, but it
since has, I understand, been taken back by the original developers,
DataTax of Canada. I definitely got their upgrade notice and shipped it
off, so they are still supporting the Amiga.

Could be…thanks! I tried calling the number provided by people here and I
got a recording!! The message asked me to leave my name and number and they
would send me some info on their product. Hopefully they will send
something BEFORE the first of the year, but it's already been a week
<sigh>. I guess it's time to dust off my BridgeBoard again.

I finally got through, but they won't sell me a copy until Jan 15, 1992.
Not even an OLD copy to do some planning!! Maybe I'll buy a copy then, but
for now I'm going the IBM compatible route.

Thanks! That's not even CLOSE to the number I had listed for the

John, I used Datamax's tax program last year and was very pleased with it.
I also got a mailing this week describing this year's tax program and will
be ordering it ($34.95,p&h included). They have an office in Bradford,
Ontario and one in Lewiston, New York. If you need the full address or
phone, let me know.
They also have a blurb describing a "Call Predictor" for use in
conjunction with CDTV. It displays the telephone numbers of those calling
on the TV screen with an anmiated telephone, etc. Interesting.

Hmmm, I'm not so sure I'd use a program to do US taxes produced by a
Canadian company.
It's only nominally more to use a CPA (with personal time figured in) and
if he screws up he has to go to tax court with you — not likely a computer
program can testify about what it did and why.

I agree – I use my own CPA, but it was a nice way of doing some "what if?"
exercises easily, for '91 tax planning. Logic checks indicated that it is
pretty much on target, even for somewhat complex tax situations.
I have used DataTax (aka Tax Break) for the last three years. I will be
getting the update soon. The address given in the other answers is
correct. I would also recommend Phasar to do day to day personal
accounting. I have found the two a powerful combination for getting taxes
done.

Thanks for the tips on Phasar. I've been looking for some day to day
finance software too, and that's something I can check out at my local
dealer.

There is one thing (well several, actually) that I would like to see phasor
add, though. The ability to export figures to another program (like
DataTax for instance). An Arrex interface, or even clipboard cut and paste
would be useful. The inability of Phasar to export it's data is probably
it's biggest shortcoming. In the best of all possible worlds, Phasar and
DataTax would work out a means of talking to each other.
