ODL, VICAR2 Viewer?

I have just got the NASA "Voyagers to the Outer Planets" CDROM discs. Does
anybody know of an Amiga viewer that will handle these images. According to
the documentation they are stored in ODL, (Object Description Language),
and VICAR2, (Video Image Communication and Retrieval), formats. These are
apparently similar to the FITS format.
Any viewer that will display these in regular Amiga formats DCTV or HAM-E
would be fine. Anybody have any ideas?

I've got that disc set, too. I've been viewing them on my PC and Mac, but
I'd love to have a viewer for the Toaster, too, or at least something that
can translate them to 256-color IFF or even combine three images into a
24-bit image. The guy who wrote the CDROM-FS (Alan Purtle) has a
preliminary viewer, and the discs contain the source code to a
decompression routine in C, so I think it's just a matter of time. These
will make great texture maps. 🙂
John, get us the source code, and a sample image, and we'll have it very
quickly. :^)

These discs are incredible. Fourteen CD-ROMs for $145, not counting twenty
years of taxes to fund NASA. 🙂 Perhaps I'll get it together for you
tomorrow. After all, better you than me writing the code, although I
really wanted it to use this as an excuse to make my first IM loader.
It won't be ME writing the code… :^)
Personally, I view those taxes as the best money I ever gave the gov't.
They spent the rest on weapons, when I would have much preferred it spent
on education. Every time I see some twerp of a politician riding around in
a $90,000 limo, I think about teachers who can't get good pay, and of
course, schools that have a hell of a time getting good teachers.
Education is the ultimate weapon. :^)
When I was in first and second grade around the time of the moon landings,
I could draw the Saturn V right down to the bolts. Enthusiasm for such
things lead me away from my previous potential vocation at the time, which
I think was fishing. 🙂 But now I stand on principle… I'd prefer that
egomaniac politicians buy their own limos with their own dollars. Gee, you
must have relatively few politicians in Montana… there's what, 60K people
in the whole state?
Oh no…. I think we're around a million or so. It *is* the fourth largest
state inthe country, we've room for a few. :^)

There are more people in Montana than Wyoming, which is why we got our
retirement place in Wyoming. Course, Montana's got more land………..
Vic, Does that say something about your attitude toward people in general?
(ie, retiring to the least populous state?). I've gotta wonder, tho —
Jackson is the most populous area of the state (all tourists, sure, but
more people there at any given time than anywhere else in the state).

Please post if and when that viewer becomes available. I have CDROM-FS but
as there was no registration card to send in I'll doubt that I'll hear from
them myself.
BTW: What are you using to view the images on a PC, I wasn't that impressed
with the IMDISP viewer they supplied.
