#MSCDEX Problem

I am using CD-ROMs from several sources on a single PC. In some cases
the retrieval software for the CD-ROM requires that MicroSoft CD-ROM
Extensions (MSCDEX) be loaded. In other cases, the retrieval software does
not use MSCDEX, and will not even run if MSCDEX is resident because there
is not enough memory available.
My question is: is there a command or utility that will remove MSCDEX
from memory? I could then set up BAT files to load MSCDEX before using the
CD-ROMs that need it, and remove it when I exit the retrieval program.

Phil,
You need to use two shareware programs that come bundled together called
MARK and RELEASE. You run MARK before MSCDEX (or any TSR) and it puts like
a bookmark in memory. When you are done and would like to remove MSCDEX
you run the RELEASE program and it (using info from the Mark program)
releases the memory while properly restore interrupts.
Look on fine BBSs near you for TSRCOM28, 29, 30, 31 or 32. The most
recient version TSRCOM32 has many improvements and can be found on Rusty &
Edie's BBS in Ohio. It may also be found here somewhere, use the IBMFF.

Why dont you just load it into hi memory? It cuts your memory usage way
down so your aps ought to run. MSDOS 5.0 or Turbo EMS or QEMM 386 etc all
work fine.

I think your reply went to me by accident. I DO load MSCDEX into high RAM
with QEMM. Although I have read of some people with problems getting it to
run once it gets up there…but I've had great success so far.
Now if only the Software Toolworks CDs I have weren't such garbage!
