#MSCDEX in OS2 V2 Dos box

Has ANYONE had any success at running MSCDEX.EXE (Microsoft's CD ROM
extension) in a 6.167 DOS session? I have succeeded in getting past the
"Wrong Dos Version" message by altering MSCDEX.EXE so that it doesn't
really care what Version of DOS is reported. And MSCDEX will run in the Dos
session. I run into trouble, however, when I try to specify the /L:F option
to tell MSCDEX to access the CD-ROM as the F: drive. OS/2 doesn't seem to
like this one bit! I get "SYS3176: A Program executed an illegal
instruction" and that's all she wrote. Programs which DO use the MSCDEX
driver but do NOT access the CD-ROM as a normal disk drive (F:) such as the
laser library CD player seem to work just fine.
Is there a way to get OS/2 to allow room for an F: drive in the Dos
session? LASTDRIVE=Z has no effect on this error… Much Thanks

Try posting your request over in the IBMOS2 forum, your bound to get a
response from someone who has already done this. Ah just noticed that you
did, donwload the new cmdref for info regarding the new drivers.

The current issue of BYTE magazine has a cover article wherein the author
says he has done just this. His BIX address is in the article.
