#ADI Prob w/ Autoshade
10 messages in this thread
Right after I got your message, I called and ordered it. It came yesterday.
I installed it and it works great. I have a related question although it's
more general: At 800×600 resoluton, the aspect ratio seems to be way off.
The display is narrow and high. (To the point that menu bars at the top of
the screen are above the top of the display.) This isn't just with
Autoshade. This occurs with Animator Pro, Deluxe Paint, AutoCad. I don't
remember if it occurs with Windows. All other resolutions are fine. My
brother's system is similar. He has a Diamond SpeedStar card although at
800×600 you can still see part of the menu bar. This isn't related to your
product. It's something I've had to deal with for some time but never was
able to figure out what the problem was.

Randy,
The problem you are seeing is caused by how your graphics board and monitor
sync up at different resolutions. Some boards come with a utility, which is
often called vmode, that allow you to configure the board for a particular
monitor or class of monitor. Your friend with the Gateway definitely has
this and it is called vmode. Have him check out the SpeedStar VGA manaul
for more details. If you don't have a utility like this, about your only
other choice is to adjust the hsize and vsize controls each time you go
into graphics mode.

I have a Sony 1304 HG. It has an auto size switch that was locked.
According to the manual, locking it is for PS2 vga mode. (I don't know why
it took me so long to find that switch!) Unlocking it allowed me to adjust
the size. I do have VMODE by the way. Thanks for your help.

i have one also and it also runs on the svga cards in lock mode also very
nice monitor but will not lock to a targa in all modes. the only mode that
it will lock to on the targa is 512×486 interlaced and some non-interlaced
modes for those who are interested. buy a 1302 or a 1303 for targa output.

Sherwood,
If we're still talking a Sony 1304HG here, the Targa will only work
@ non-interlaced modes (31.5kHz horizontal scan rate). Interlaced would be
15.7kHz, which is below the Sony scan rate (approx. 20k-50kHz.)

well i ran tmode for the targa 64 and set it at interlaced mode 11 and it
came up fine on the 1304. but all other interlaced modes of the targa did
not work.
Sherwood,
Something's screwy, mode 11 is 512x486x32-bit interlaced, below the
Sony's scan rate.

unless after i set it with tmode digital arts overrides the setting and
resets it higher
