#AA PRO & WINDOWS

John,
I'm a proud new owner of AAP. I noticed that if I have Himem.sys in my
config.sys that AAP doesn't use the 8 megs of memory I have. Is there some
way I can use DOS 5.0 and the HMA effectively and still
have access to extended memory for AAP without multiple config.sys files.

Randale,
I don't use HIMEM. I use QEMM 6.0 and it does work well with AAPRO and
other Phar Lap based apps. I'd recommend using it or 386 To The Max, as
they both provide better control over your environment including how to map
your memory. I know that QEMM 6.0 works well with DOS 5 but I don't know
which version of 386MAX does, but I know they have a version as well.
John
John, 386Max 6.0 is the newest version for DOS 5.0.
Mike
Randale, the conflict between Animator Pro and HIMEM.SYS lies deep in the
VooDoo in something called the Phar Lapp DOS Extender. The version of that
extender being used doesn't know what to do with HIMEM and ends up only
seeing memory up to the point where HIMEM sits. The best solution to this
problem is to use QEMM or something similar (386^MAX, etc) instead of
HIMEM. You get many other great advantages as well. –PhilD
PhilD:
What version of PharLap is APP shipping with? And if it's v2.2, is there
any possiblity of an upgrade patch similar to NEWDX for AutoCad?
Larry
Larry, in fact the NEWDX patch will run fine on the 3DS executable.
However, there are some licensing things being worked out still with Phar
Lapp about using NEWDX with AAP; NEWDX was released for use on AutoCAD
only. –Phil
