I seem to recall that running Chaos under DOS 5.0 required some fiddling.
For now I get a "packed file corrupt" error message when loading
metashel.exe
Any suggestions?

Jeff – the "Packed File Corrupt" message is an indicator that a program
requires loading through the DOS 5 LOADFIX command. Chaos is one of them.
It's explained in the "Getting Started" booklet that comes with the DOS 5
update, but basically the syntax is
LOADFIX C:\CHAOS\CHAOS
(… or whatever the Chaos executable is actually called.)

Thanks, Dave. I knew I had just recently seen a message regarding this, but
I don't use Chaos too often (at least, I haven't used it since upgrading to
DOS 5.0).
Next time, I'll RTFM *closer* <g>.

Jeff – you did ok — it's not IN the FM!!!
It's in that little "Getting Started" booklet that comes with the upgrade;
there's no mention at all of LOADFIX in the manual itself.
I only stumbled across it when I was reading the Que book "Upgrading to DOS
5" that Egghead was selling cheap with the upgrade.

Go figure. Well, I don't feel so bad now. Now I understand why I use an "F"
in "Read The Fine Manual." "F" works interchangably with so many other
"fine" verbs <g>.

I see that Dave Byrnes has given you a correct prescription. (Isn't Dos
5.0 wonderful? "Packed File Corrupt"? "Loadfix"?)

You need to use the LOADFIX option, which is documented in the DOS 5
manaul.
